I've noticed that in other countries I've lived in, mobile carriers have offered the ability to accept emails and pass-on a txt to that phone number.

So, something like 0275551234@telecom.co.nz   would result in text message being sent to that phone number.  Does anything like this exist for any of the mobile carriers in NZ?

Thanks

I don't think it exists anymore. I used to have a Vodafone SMS email address... But just think of the amount of cheap spam sent from compromised machines people would receive. I think this is the kind of thing that had its time and it's not a good idea anymore.

There are a number of commercial services like this.

The reason it doesn't exist by default (it did many years ago on Vodafone) is because of the complete lack of security - somebody who doesn't like you could just send 1000 emails to your number and you'd be stuck with the $200 bill.

Most of the commercial services get around this by allowing whitelisted domains that are allowed to send the email.
