A friend of mine can get UFB According to Snaps Site but not according to Telecoms site. He recently signed a 12 month contract for ADSL on the condition there was no fee for "upgrading" but telecom don't have an ETA, yet other providers are able to offer it now?

My understanding is that Enable are the providers in Christchurch, is it a case that Telecom don't have a handover in CHCH Yet?

Correct. No VoIP solution. Same for the rest of the country at present.

I'm guessing hes in either rolleston or prebbelton. Where they are knocking on doors and offering VDSL as soon as its nearly fibre laid to beat the others to the maildrop :)

He is not worried about VOIP, he wants Internet.

If they can't offer it and won't offer an ETA, is it grounds for him to be able to cancel without ETF?

As he already has copper then he should ask to get put on the Enable UFB Pilot

If you message me or email me his details I will forward it through to the project manager.

As with most people wanting internet primarily - But it's a package deal (not sure if its crown rules or someone else come up with it). With the idea of starting to remove the copper network down the line once everyone has used the uptake deals. (they even snip it at the etp to allow the house to be wired from the VoIP port of the router)

Ask to be pilot? Ooooh. they can do that? (request?) Boss at work recently moved, hes in the same boat in rolleston. Was advised its 'soon', decided to stick with telecom BB for ease of combined bill etc they currently have. He managed to squeeze out an upgrade to VDSL for being long-term and to give near-UFB like connection until such time its ready.

It's not too long before the full service will be available. Dates of course are commercially sensitive, but rest assured it's not too far away.
