Hi - Not sure if others on the forum are experiencing a very annoying issue with degrading 3G performance on Skinny in Christchurch? The nub of the issue is slow down load and uploads speeds, web pages stalling / not downloading - happening to me all the time with my iPhone here in lots of places in the Christchurch area. Web use for Google searches, white pages etc. Speeds now less than 1.5MB down and 150Kb up are common; happening in prime coverage on multi base stations. I am an early user of Skinny when I was enjoying 3.5M/sec to 5MB downloads; sadly it seems that good 3G performance here in Chch may be a thing of the past?! This has been getting worse for some months now.
My current conclusion on poss causes for this are:
1. The back haul data network on/to the Skinny APN is potentially overloaded??
2. Skinny's links and peering to the wider WWW are not good enough capacity wise now as more customers come onboard?
3. Skinnys MVNO supplier Telecoms 3G BTS is now maxing out here in Chch area/server?? More post earthquake mobile user traffic?
4. Unlikley but Telecom Skinny might poss be squeezing the Prepaid (and lower $16 monthly Skinny revenue customers) quality of service to push post paid TNZ and or 4G services? I hope that is not the case?!
I also not voice calls can be poor at times indicative of overloading on base stations in a WCDMA 3G network.
I would be keen for a Skinny Tech Team members comments feedback on this one!
I like to support competition and Skinny and 2D have done a good job here in NZ delivering value in keeping Voda and TNZ on their toes for the average customer! But the 3G data side needs to work well too...!
Cheers
