Hey everybody,

As you can see we have a shiny new sub-forum on geekzone.  Sweet!

You might also notice some changes to our logo and colour scheme which we think are pretty cool.

We've also opened up Bigpipe so people can sign up directly from our page, rather than just taking registrations of interest, so check out our new page at www.bigpipe.co.nz

We think we've built the simplest sign up process of any ISP in NZ. All on one page, takes about 3 minutes. See if you agree.

We've also added a troubleshooting guide to our support page. It's a downloadable PDF with minimal graphics to help ease the burden on your mobile data bill if you happen to be having connection issue, and covers the basic steps of what to do if you are having problems with your broadband.

We're continuing the same offer we made to our triallists, so anybody signing up gets free Bigpipe broadband until the end of March.

The other parts of the deal also stay the same - no connection fee, no data cap, leave anytime.

For all existing trialists we thank you for signing up and we will be contacting you during March to let you know how we will transition you from trialist to proper customer or you can, of course, leave anytime you want.

For anybody that registered interest, but wasn't lucky enough to be invited (sorry - it was limited numbers!), you can now sign up yourself - so go right ahead!

Thanks also to the geekzone community for all the great feedback so far, it really helped us design the overall business model, and we have a great list of exiting new features coming in the next few months.

Keep the feedback coming!

cheers

Bigpipe - Nothing But Broadband.

feedback on the colours, images, and logo was pretty average. And the little boy with wooden wings seemed to be appearing all over the place.  :D

We didn't spend $$$$$ on it to begin with so were happy to change it.

If you require a public IP address for your connection, please contact us using our support form. There may be a charge for this service.

You'd be deterring the budget conscious geek crowd if you enforced this charge. I'm guessing this just a precaution?

Also out of interest, it states that gaming won't be affected. So will consoles gamers not see NAT errors on their consoles when CG-NAT is in use?

Also as a subsidiary of telecom, why aren't you guys supplied with a larger IP space, which im sure telecom has plenty of compared to other ISPs. While I understand that from the get go, you want to be ready for the inevitable growth pains that ipv4 experiences, but at least if you had more IP space you could hand out public IPs to any of the people that asked for it without charge and the rest sit on CGNAT by default.

Lastly i see you have a thread over at GP that needs a bump/update:

yep. no charge at the moment, and no plans to charge.  Only if things go crazy will we need to charge.

We have some pretty serious gamers as customer and we haven't had a single reported issue of gamers having problems.

I also play a fair bit of SC2, our CTO plays BF4 like madman and neither have had no issues to far either. Neither of us have a public IP

you'd be surprised.  Telecom is being very stingy with IP address space. I guess they must have other plans for their addresses....

But what you are saying is what we are doing - anybody that wants one gets one, everybody else is on CGNAT by default.

I think Opera is a known issue.

But almost nobody uses Opera...

ETA:  even fewer people use Firefox 3.6

I just get a message "Sorry but you have to have javascript enabled".

Like others, I tend to leave this off by default and run noscript. It's safer than leaving javascript on when on the web. I need a pretty good reason to enable it for a site.

If you want the website to be effective, you should consider either not making the main web page rely on javascript to function, or at least to have it degrade gracefully to a non-javascript version when it detects that this isn't enabled in a browser.

Is there really anything on the site which can't be accomplished at all without javascript?

If you're going the CGNAT route, why also aren't you rolling out IPv6 at the same time?

Almost nobody cares about using IPv6 right now.

It's on our roadmap for sure, but is not an immediate concern.

give us a chance though, it's not like you can roll out IPv6 overnight.

I'll be keen on IPv6 since I use it with all my boxen personally! But I do like the design change, much more clean, zero frills kind of layout. Good job guys!
