I've been using this DNS address for about the past 10 years and noticed that my 2Talk line was offline this morning . I am using Telecom ADSL. A check on a the account shows it disconnected at about 10.59pm last nite but my second account on my cell phone via my WiFi at home was OK. Looking in my PAP2 the DNS of 210.48.65.2 was entered. I did a search of the Telecom site and found that y current primary address is 122.56.237.1. I put that into the PAP2 and it all came up again.

Pretty sure that 210.48.65.2 is ICONZ's DNS Server: http://iconz-webvisions.com/en/settings-nz

And they have been making changes: http://list.waikato.ac.nz/pipermail/nznog/2014-February/020593.html

It is indeed an ICONZ DNS server. As a Telecom customer you shouldn't be dependent on this - your router will be auto-assigned appropriate DNS servers, why not use those?

This was a notified change also published to NZNOG as noted :) unfortunately in today's climate iWV cannot leave its resolvers open for general use anymore; they are intended for our own customers.

Easy mistake to make if you switch ISPs; I accidentally left the TelstraClear DNS in my Wi-Fi AP after I switched away, and didn't realise it until about two years later when a friend brought his Windows machine around and couldn't connect (interestingly my Macs, Xbox, PS4 and Raspberry Pi didn't have a problem).

Yea the ICONZ DNS server stopped providing services to non ICONZ customers last night. Been following on the NZNOG mailing list, still getting millionss of queries from outside their network LOL.

Thanx. Yes our company used to be on ICONZ then switched to Telecom some years ago. Guess the DNS address just came with us and was used other services. I always thought that this was a Telecom DNS.. You learn. Wonder what old stuff at work doesn't go properly this morning.

It was set in my PAP2 not the DSL router.. That's how I found it was gone..
