In a quick follow up of my previous post about Sierra's 595U, Telecom now have an express card offering from Sierra Wireless. The 597E is EVDO Rev A and backwards compatible with EVDO Rev 0 and 1xRtt CDMA.

For more information see: Telecom New Zealand

Have you tried it out yet? The AC 595 performs quite well, but I've got a laptop with only a PCI Express slot now, and no adapter...

I've used both the 595 and 595u devices, quite nice and performance is quite good.

When I get the chance I should fire up a laptop (with an PCMCIA-express card adapter) and give the 597 a spin, however I expect the performance to be similar to what is achieved on the 595 class cards.

Why does every new adapter stick out the side so much more than the last! SNAP!

the best were the little 1x devices with the little antenna on the pivot.

No not yet, as I dont have a device to try it out on Frown. But as cokemaster says, I expect the performance to be similar to the 595.

IMHO I beleive the 595 and 597E seem to of a better build quality compared to the 595U, but thats just my personal take on it,

You mean the Gtan GCP-3000 and Sierra 555's? I think the Gran GCP 6210 EVDO card is similar in factor to the Gran GCP-3000 if that is your concern Wink.

Indeed, while it looks good with the USB plug being movable... its just another moving part which is likely to break off. It is just inviting to be snapped off while being plugged into the computer.

Something like the Vodem (read: with a USB cable) would be more desirable in my opinion, which can be moved without fear of breaking the device or the USB slot.

The 595U comes with a USB cradel mainly for use with PC's but you could of course use it with a laptop.

Just could be a pain to have the device floating around that's all.
