Hey guys.

My mum got a Telecom R303 for work last week, last Friday in fact. All was working well and good even this morning but now it is showing "Emergency calls only". I have restarted the phone, taken sim and battery out but it is still showing the message and no calls can be made.

Any idea what caused this in the beginning and more importantly how to fix it? Phone is on a plan, I think.

Cheers.

Where in the country are you? My 3G connection is dropping out a lot in Whakatane and I wonder whether you're seeing another symptom of a widespread problem. Also seen a Twitter post referencing issues in Tauranga.

have you tried the sim in another telecom 3g capable phone? (must have at least 2100MHz 3g, best if also has 850MHz 3g, not gprs)

if it says the same then your sim is broken

if it works your phone (most likely sim pins) broken

but I'm no expert

That should really read:

"Must have 850Mhz UMTS/WCDMA/3G support, and best if it also has 2100Mhz UMTS/WCDMA/3G"

As our network is a Pure 3G network running on 850Mhz, with the 2100Mhz for in-fill only in metro areas.

Cheers guys for the responses.

I just tried the Sim in another phone, the same message "emergency calls only".

So what do I/my mum do now? Give Telecom a ring? She only got the phone on Friday, the Sim came with it.

Would be quicker to go to your local Telecom store, if you have one, and ask them if they could replace the SIM. Should be no charge. Otherwise you'll have to wait for a replacement to be sent out.

Although, I would call first in case they've accidentally disabled the SIM.
