My setup is wall-> Zyxel p-870h-51a VDSL2 modem -> DD-WRT router.

I've disabled DCHP on the DD-WRT router as per these instructions. So now if I enter 192.168.1.1 in my browser, I directly access the modem.

The issue is that the modem has connected to the internet, but the computer is unable to.

This is resolved if on the individual computers you assign a static DNS ip of 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4. Iphones are a OK without any modification.

This isn't ideal, as you need to set every computer up this way, and also our Wii won't connect.

Any ideas how to resolve this?

Here's a screen of the modem configuration:

How is the DD-WRT modem configured? Is it configured as a router or simply as an AP/switch?

are you trying to use the DD-WRT as a router, or simply an wireless access point?

Can you let us know exactly what you are trying to achieve?

You first question appears to be - how can I give my pc a DNS server address and the answers are:
1. The DNS entries can come from configuration (manual) - but it appears you don't want that.
2. or autoconfiguration (DHCP which you want to switch off).

Then there appears to be a second question - how does the iphone get the DNS server address without DHCP?
- You should probably ask on the iOS forum, but I wouldn't be surprised if iOS caches them for each access point - I'm assuming this is an iphone that has used this access point before?

But without knowing what you want to achieve, I can't offer much more. In my own home network, I've got the DHCP setup so that most devices with a known MAC address are given the same IP address by DHCP every time.

I'm not using DD WRT, but if I was I would be using something like this:

Hi guys.

So the DD-WRT is a bit of a red herring, as the DNS issue exists if I'm plugging my computer straight into the ZyXEL modem with an ethernet cable.

Check the DNS and DHCP settings on the Zyxel. Maybe it's not providing its own IP as a DNS server, or DNS forwarding is turned off.

Hmmm of the settings I can find:

In this picture it looks like there is no DNS server set?

curiously enough, a ping www.google.co.nz works from the modem:

Switching it to Full Cone NAT solved it.

No idea why.
