Hey guys,

Unfortunately we seem to be having a fairly widespread outage right now since about 5am this morning.

I've only just found out, so I don't yet have all the info, but it appears that most, but not all, bigpipe customers are currently unable to connect, but wanted to post it here to make sure you guys know we are looking into it as top priority.
I'll post back here as soon as I hear anything more about the reason and an ETA.

Cheers

ETA:
It's all fixed now.

have edited the thread title to be more up to date :D

Looks like we are back up for at least some people. We are checking now whether everybody is back up.

Anybody here still having issues? (May need to restart your modem to get it going)

Seems like the issue was with our link to GGI which needed a kick up the bum to get going again, so we'll need to find out from our provider exactly what went wrong.

Thanks for posting here BigPipe and and thanks to Geekzone for automatically telling me about the new conversation.

My problems started last night from about 8pm with patchy service and often large packet loss.  Since my setup's new, I thought it could easily be one of my devices misbehaving and not BigPipe.  My equipment still might have been part of the problem, but this morning from 7am-8:30am there was 100% loss of service.

It seems things still aren't working at home but I won't be able to check properly until later.

seems likely to be two unrelated things.  Looking at our network traffic we had no issues last night at our end (could still be an issue with your individual line of course).  It's very clear the outage started at ~4/5am this morning.

Have a look tonight and if you are still having issues with packet loss etc let us know with a support ticket on our site

Once I plugged everything back in, it worked fine.

When things were partially problematic last night it, some sites were affected while others seemed ok.  Not sure whether that indicates a possible network issue independently from anything else going on with the local equipment.

BigPipe: If info like this can indicate some sort of network issue, would you like to be advised about the details at the time via Geekzone/FB/Twitter?

Absolutely.  Sometimes with network problems we know straight away, but other times it's only when people report it that we know.
The more people that report it, and the more detail they can give (location, times etc) the easier it will be for us to work out what is going on and put a fix in.

Best places to report it are either via our support form on our site or here on geekzone (or, ideally, both)  Twitter isn't so good since you only get 140 chars, so not much room for detail.

Hey BigPipeNZ,

Have you guys been having issues with your service over the last few days? I have had no problems once we finally got connected about 2 months ago, but on Saturday night (technically Sunday morning) our service went down - A bit annoying when trying to troubleshoot a family member in Aussie over the internet!

... Having issues again at the moment (right now) - Having to tether my phone to the laptop in order to send this. If you're able to advise that would be great thanks.

Cheers guys!

Yep appears to be back up and running again. Did restart the modem again (did it a few times Saturday night as well) but had to wait until morning to discover it was back up and going again.

Hope it's just some temporary issues guys!

hey jtan (and the others who posted on here)

yep, we had an outage on Sunday during the night.
unfortunately the same thing happened tonight. thanks for the posts.  Because we're now aware of the issue, it's quick to fix (which is why we were only down for 10 minutes)

I understand it's to do with some temporary equipment we have in place to accommodate our growth. We'll be replacing it with permanent stuff this week so you should get a lot more stability then.  Really sorry.  Nobody is more frustrated than me with this, and we're doing everything we can to stop it happening again.
