ive been attempting to use my apache as a data modem (i go to hotels etc and have found this a cheaper option than using their offered internet services

i used to do this frequently with my harrier, until i "upgraded" to an apache

now when i try and use the Apache as a data-modem, it constantly wont connect, or even crashes !!!!!!

i contacted telecom regarding this, was mucked around by a few people there who had no clue

needless to say i went into a store and ended up having to show someone physicially, in which resulted them contacting someone and they mentioned "ah, we can offer a replacement phone of the Treo 700wx"

i somewhat looked blankly at him - that is considered a severe downgrade for me

1) i upgraded from the harrier to apache to obtain WiFi capabilities, now they go and offer me a handset with no wifi

2) i upgraded from the harrier to apache for the key-size, being considerably bigger

so i thought it was a joke, i walked out and rang telecom again and actually spoke to someone who said they were aware of the problem !!!!!!! (hrmm..) and yes, that the treo 700wx was the offered replacement

pretty shocking if you ask me, i will be attempting to get out of my contract with this phone, as it does NOT do what it was stated it would be

hopefully telecom have an answer, but i doubt it

What really annoys me is that I have submited this as a bug to Telecom New Zealand just before the Apache launch. They promised a fix, which of course never came. Connecting with the HTC Apache (either via Bluetooth or USB cable) was always a thing of lucky.

Now that the HTC Apache is no longer in production, you have to hope that they will do it right with the new HTC - if and when and comes out.

Dont know if this will help, but i found the most stable connection was via infrared and setup as wireless modem, I am running the upgraded version of apache software, this is recognisable by a screen lock option & connection manager having the data and wireless session incl

You can get a wifi card for the 700wx - http://store.treocentral.com/content/accessories/59-60--515.htm although you cant use the sd card slot for memory at the same time

In my opinion the Palm is better than the apache... better battery, more solid feeling, nicer interface and the keyboard is really not that bad even though the keys look small

don't forget that if you are not locked into a contract (or are happy to pay a termination fee) you can always go talk to vodafone - there are a few more device options on that side currently.

why should i be forced to pay extra for a wifi card, and lose my sd slot usability ? .. just those two facts there i cant see how the palm can be better than the apache.

may have to go and talk to vodafone, im sure they will appreciate my $150 a month more than telecom

Why don't you write a letter of complaint to Simon Mouter, the new interim CEO?

Their compromise clearly isn't acceptable, and your requirement doesn't appear to be being treated seriously.

It's much much better than the Apache!

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

Could it be the follow up for the Apache i.e. the PPC6800? (whatever the name of it being). Even my Apache is in for a repair for the last three weeks for a cracked screen. Been trying to get them to sort it out. Considering that they might offer the 700wx(which even I consider as a downgrade compared to the apache) as a replacement, I am hoping to atleast get my apache back hopefully in a working condition!

Found it. the PPC6800 is the HTC Mogul and supposedly the successor to the PPC6700 HTC Apache. Not sure if this is what's gonna fill in the void that the Apache left.

It filled the Apache's void for Sprint... It is well known that Telecom are testing the Mogul, there is an article somewhere here about it. Expect to see sometime in the future

yea, sometime in the 2nd week of June the Mogul was released and it does seem to be the one which might be what TCNZ brings in soon. But the question is when will it come out? hmmm...
