The Skinny $16 prepaid combo looks very attractive.

Currently on Telecom prepaid for all our mobiles. Looking to switch shortly, and wondering if there's a "catch" with the Skinny $16 combo.

Chatted with a TNZ CSR and was told he couldn't match the offering - which I was expecting. But, I was really after any reasons negating Skinny's seemingly too-good-to-be-true offering.

Anyone know a good reason why I shouldn't switch?

TIA.

was thinking this too -- they were offering free data boost for a few months too, but that may have expired now.

Curious. What's that?

I know if you purchase a Skinny SIM from JB Hi Fi you get 1.5GB data (on $16 combo) until the end of June, then it reverts back to 500MB p/m (is that what you were referring to?).

You don't get the free WiFi from phone boxes on Skinny

Also, no 4G afaik. And, doesn't count as a Telecom on account mobile for broadband discounts.

True. One of the mobiles is indeed 4G capable.

As for the discount, I thought it only applied to a $39+ plan? (we're on a VF InHome package, so wouldn't affect us anyhow)

Edit: Fixed atrocious spelling....

I remember someone saying they don't have Call Waiting .. not sure if its still the case.

4G not available - is probably the only big downside

I've never been in a spot longer enough to use it  or Spotify on my Telecom account..  Lack of 4G is only valid if your're in a 4G area and have a 4G fone.   I can't see any reason not to switch to  Skinny's $16 plan as they do have carry over minutes and calls and SMS to Oz as a part of it..

Yes. That's a hook which fortunately we don't have with $19 TNZ prepaid. Otherwise it would be very hard convincing one family member in particular to switch.

Yeah, plus the free Skinny-to-Skinny calling is a real clincher. Awesome as a "family" plan.

Our oldest has an iPhone 5S which is mostly used in Wellington. The 4G vs 3G performance difference might be an issue though. Will only know when/if/after we switch.

I swapped from 2degrees to skinny - have been pleased.
2 degrees are ok - but I found the reception bad at my place (middle of Auckland). Has been great on skinny.

As you probably know skinny is Telecom (spark) cheap brand - but they do say this about 4G on their website:
Currently Skinny is running on the 3G network. We are looking to expand this to include 4G in 2014.

2 degrees now have rollover minutes and data on their $19 plan - for what its worth

Reception is the reason we switched to XT.

Nice.

Prior to XT we were with both VF and 2D. I liked the 2D offerings, unfortunately coverage was simply terrible - at least in the places I tended to be.

I'm thinking of switching for the 1.5gig and if the others don't follow and it goes away then may switch back. Best skinny feature is voicemail that will not let people leave messages so you can just say to email or text and not worry about people dictating their life story and you having to pay to listen to it.

I'm convinced, I'm going to change to skinny.

No worries about 4g, the phone doesn't have it anyway.

(and 4g is non-existent in 90% of the places I normally visit anyway).
