Today I've received an update from Telecom regarding this project:

We’ve made the difficult decision to not continue with our crowd-sourced modem. The response and contribution from the Geekzone community to the campaign was amazing, and the suggestions and voting figures were impressive. A big thank you to yourself, and to everybody who has participated in this campaign.

In the broadband space, our customers are telling us that the things they really want are bigger data allowances and great content, and that’s what we are focusing our resources on. We’re working on some exciting new stuff in these areas, and we’ll share more info on that in due course.

We realise it will be disappointing to find out we’re not continuing with the campaign, but we’d like to recognise those people who put in the time and effort to come up with some great ideas.

Yes, I know some people will complain bitterly, but these things happen all the time... But on a phone call with the project owner it was clear that Telecom is changing (aren't they always?) and with that comes the need to prioritise activities. They have a lot going on (new online TV service, ISP changes, etc) so while this seemed like a great idea a few months back, there is not much space for this project looking at their current landscape.

But, fear not! You efforts weren't in vain! All that time put into thinking of great features will be rewarded. I will be contacting the top 10 contributors with a special offer: a Telecom handset of their choice as reward for their contribution. Pretty stoked with this outcome. There were a lot of cool ideas in there, but I can understand why other things had to take priority.

Thanks Telecom!

You could get a new phone and give your old one to your wife.

Yea a shame the router made by geeks for geeks is a no go. I'm sure some of our ideas will still make it into future generations of their standard router offering though. Certainly a nice touch to close off with a few free handsets, very cool!

" !" (I'm actually lost for words). Other than obviously thank you to Telecom and Geekzone. This was a cool project idea, so I can't wait to see what they are going to focus on.

Interesting. So only one HTC One M8, the rest split between Samsung S5 and iPhone. Those wouldn't be my pick...

There was some serious discussion in the office before a choice was made.

Just looking forward to upgrade the current almost smart device to a serious piece of kit

+1 for the way Telecom handled this.

While its sad that we wont see an uber modem Im sure that all the feature requests seen here will start to creep into future modems now that Telecom has an idea of what the geeky customers wants.

Congrats to all winners!

Here's hoping we see some of the excellent feedback introduced into a future offering from Telecom. There were some great ideas that came out of the discussions.

You did say current line up.  I'm sure everyone just thought that current excluded pre-order offerings? (including me)
