Was looking at the website but apart from the weekly data "Love Bytes" 200 Meg for $4 there seems to be no monthly plans only minutes / text / data combos.

There never has been any data only monthly 'plans or 'combos'

There are addons though, 1gb for $20 and 300mb for $10 which you can use only if you have an existing combo. There are those new data only sims you can get from harvey norman that have some plans though

So wanting to use a spare fone SIM in a data stick I have to buy the whole combo. Kind of an expensive waste of time.. I'm sure when Skinny first stated that there were data only packs..

You can get the $4 Love Bytes weekly combo which is 200mb data for a week. You can add 200 or 600mb on top of that. The weekly ones have been there since skinny started or you could go go Harvey Norman and buy a skinny data only sim which have their own plans

Harvey Norman now have the data only SIMS online as well
