Skinny has launced the first of a series of new ads
Watch it here

Highlights the facts of cheaper prices because they don't have their own stores, They can't lock you in to contracts so have to keep you happy, And also says that they are cheaper because they dont sponsor rugby league teams (cough cough vodafone)

And also this on their website. Ouch, poor vodafone!

I also find it interesting that they are saying 'its just telecom but cheaper'  Which will probably mean a few people on telecom move over simply for cheaper prices? Obviously telecom is okay with this. I wonder if telecom prepay and skinny would ever merge

Rumours are they'll also feature one saying

"If our parent company didn't charge $19 they wouldn't be able to create a profit to invest in network expansion therefore we wouldn't exist".

"Because Telecom has such a great network Skinny just uses that" should be replaced with "Because Telecom is our parent company we use their network".

Their marketing probably bet a lot of people don't know about Skinny and Telecom's relationship.

Well, that's a two year old piece of news, not really related to this topic.

They're also creating growing discontent with their business customers who can't get unlimited calling for $40 per month per connection.

Sub brands have always been a dumb idea from a marketing perspective, companies only create them out of desperation which in itself is an admission their a) business model or b) brand isn't a good one.

Maybe from a marketing perspective, but from a business perspective they can be a useful tool for when you want to jettison a whole bunch of customers you don't want any more for whatever reason that could include lack of profits from those customers, customers no longer being the target of your business model, etc.

And by jettison I mean shifting the customer from your parent company to the sub company and housing them there until you move forward with your plan which is usually to sell it off.

Please give details as a few friends were looking at this plan.

There is no reason why a business can't get Skinny's $40 Unlimited Talk combo :) Its just not their target market

dunno, loads and loads of Telcos seem to have them, some of the most successful ones in fact.  So it seems to be working for them.

I guess your marketing expertise is a lot better than the guys who work at:

KPN
TDC
O2

for example.
