I keep reading forum posts that say it's against the terms and conditions of a residential internet connection to resell the connection, but I'm having trouble finding where in my T&Cs this is actually written.

I have a residential VDSL connection with telecom so I'm pretty sure the following T&Cs apply

  • http://www.telecom.co.nz/help/other/terms/broadband/
  • http://www.telecom.co.nz/help/other/terms/broadband/vdsl/

I've tried searching for fee, sell, share and a number of similar keywords, but can't find anything relevant to on selling my connection.

Thoughts?

You're responsible if they decide to get you put in jail for downloading KP.

The first link you gave includes

  • Use the Services for your own personal, non-commercial use or, if you are operating a business, or doing business, from your residential home, for your own internal business purposes.

Which precludes reselling it, clearly.

That;s not going to happen. While the copyright side yes the account holder would be responsible, definitely not in the case of kiddie porn.

Perhaps you could create a shell company to put the connection under to get around the copyright issue?

Or change ISP or disconnect and re-connect with a different account holder.

That seems to say you can use it for home business. So if part of your home business is reselling your internet to your neighbour??

I've seen Telecom comment on this before, basically the answer is this isn't a problem, but they will look into it if it's clearly a large scale / wholesale type operation.

Just don't go pointing the finger at Telecom, if you have an outage that cant be fixed for 2-3 days due to high fault levels, because you're paying for an RS service over a business service.

The general consensus is that if its for a hotspot like a cafe or motel, its fine.

In our terms of service we state that the service may be used in the property that the service is installed for, and may not be sent outside of the property boundary.
I imagine most ISP's including Telecom would use the same sort of guide.
