I know I could ask Spark about this but I can't help thinking if I email, it'll take 5 days to get an answer which is basically a regurgitation of what the website says and will need several further contacts to get a useful answer. (Since the stores actually deal with this, I presume they'll know but I can't be bothered visiting one.)

Anyway if I purchased a locked Spark phone 9 months ago and have proof of purchase etc but never used it, do I need to pay the $30 fee to unlock it? The Spark website http://www.spark.co.nz/unlockdevice seems to imply the phone must be used on the Spark network for 9 months which would suggest I do have to pay. (In fact, depending on how you intepreted "had your phone on the Spark Network for 9 months" this could mean if if I had turned it on, put in a Spark SIM to test it so that the network actually saw the phone, and then turned it off and never used it again, I still would need to pay the $30 fee.) But I wonder if this is just poor wording. Skinny says something similar but Vodafone says the phone needs to be purchased 9 months ago.
