Just in case you haven't seen this, it's a major bonus for me since I'm on Vodafone and paying $1/min.  Admittedly I'm not spending much (maybe $10/month) but it's nice to go elsewhere since Vodafone put up their charges (90c to $1 per min) within the last 6 months.  It will be interesting to see how long a $20 topup lasts!  Also saying goodbye to "cellphone anxiety" and time dilation (a 2 minute call seems to last 3-4 minutes) because I'm paying so much.

Standard Rates have changed as of 17th October for new customers from:

43c per minute to 20c per minute
8c   per text     to 20c per text
49c per MB      to 20c per MB

Standard Rate customers who joined before 17th October can also change to these rates but need to opt in, which you can do through the website.

Overage rates on Combos remain as 43c per minute and 8c per text.  We don’t have data overage at Skinny because we don’t want you chewing through all your credit. So if you run out of data on your Combo your data will stop. Just buy a data Add-On to get going again.

20 cents a text? What is this? 2007? I thought 2degrees killed them in 2009.

Heres my feedback on this:

Having two sets of standard rates and different overage rates is going to confuse people.

You've advertised this on facebook, alot of people are just going to assume they can call using the new rates, without knowing they have to opt in. People arent gonna be happy about it and you will get alot of complaints. So heres what I think you should do:

Change texts back to 8cents, keep calling at 20 cents and MB's at 20 cents
Put everyone on the new rates, not just those who opt in
Keep overage rates the same as standard rates to avoid confusion and people shouldnt have to pay more for overage. If anything overage should be cheaper than standard. but make it the same.

20 cents for calling and data is very nice though.

Would also be great to see voicemail use calling minutes in plans like 2degrees does. You used to do this, No idea why you took it away. I know you can turn voicemail off but I don't want to. When I do check my voicemail which is rarely because i dont want to pay for it I always have heaps of messages to get through. Its barely worth saving just $3 a month to miss out on things like free voicemail and rollover data. Yes you are cheaper, but you dont get as much, close but not quite as much. 2degrees had to build and maintain their own network from the ground up, and you didnt, Im sure you can do better.

Im too loyal to you to leave, but other people are not. Your ad says 'we have to keep you happy' So do it.

Sorry if I sound harsh, Just some constructive criticism

Are you serious??!! What kind of stuffed-up logic is this? (I actually had to check your website to be sure this wasn't a typo, and you'd reversed the numbers, ie new cost was 8c.)

While this doesn't impact on me as I'm on a prepay plan, my wife was going to be shifting over to Skinny soon when she runs out of credit with 2 Degrees, but it just may not be worth it, given this increase. She doesn't use enough of anything for her to be on a plan, so texts going up by 2.5 times is not helpful, even if the other key charges have dropped.

Why this change, Skinny? Why not just a more moderate reduction in the other rates to compensate for at least holding the text cost steady?

it's all just juggling the numbers to make people go "ooooh that's cool"...but then you realise that they have just taken dropped one area by increasing another area...smoke and mirrors.

you can still get unlimited SMS for $8/month.  even at 8c you only needed to be sending 100 SMS each month (not very many) before that becomes worthwhile.

I'm sure I'm not alone in believing 100 text messages a month is a lot. I may send 2-3 per week, and that's after getting a smart phone.

Someone here has a Skinny SIM.  I think it is nice as before with the $5 top up criteria.  The SMS charge is a bit strange but likewise the cheaper call rate ... meh.  It's nice for people who don't use phones often the odd call now only cost 20c like my mum.  But the savings isn't substantial.  My dad has a $8 60min plan with 2Degrees - the grandfather plan LOL.  So any savings or what is gonna be under $4 for many users.

Really?  I just checked my Vodafone app and it says 50c / min.  I am on Prepay Smart.

Sorry to be pedantic, however the time stamp for the creation of this thread is 19-Oct-2014 21:58, whereas the one you link to was created at 20-Oct-2014 09:04, so this thread is nearly half a day older. An expression involving pots and kettles come to mind, although clearly the scope of the other thread is wider.

Good point then. It seems the prices came in effect before the release was sent out.
