Hello Chaps

Just had a "what the?" moment.
I'm in a rural property at the moment using wireless bb.
However connected to a pole just over the fence is the aerial copper wire that used to be the phone service into the house.

Unfortunately some years back (before my time) a tree took out the wire running from that pole into the house (about 20m) . I've been tossing up the idea of having the house hooked up again since I'm only about 500m from the Mux and "should" expect a reasonable quality ADSL circuit.

So I've been doing the rounds of ISP websites to see whats being offered.
All enquiries so far ( using the neighbors address) come back "ADSL2".

Well I'm happy with that, but then...

Hello!

VDSL and/or UFB!!! (i assume RBI)

Now Chorus have very recently put new wattayacallems those black plastic manholes across the road from the MUX so I'm wondering...

Do you know something I dont know?

As I say I'd still be happy with ADSL2, but if there are other options.....

Out of curiosity, just a general question around the whole "run a new cable from the pole" thing.

As I say there's been no phone service to this house for a while due to the wire being snapped off by a tree.
But the line running across the road from the "grey pillar" on the roadside to the pole looks fine.

It's about 20 meters to the house from the pole. I assume I'm going to have to absorb the cost of running this cable. (From the inside of the house I'll just run cat6 solid to an existing box mounted on the external wall)

I assume the cable run to the house must be done by Chorus?

Anyone have a rough idea of the likely cost?

Word back from Flikky is ADSL1 only

That helps to makes sense of these bad boys that I found lying in the grass next to the mux

According to googles "big boys book of english words and phrases, "scalded" "cat" and "conklin" should not be used together in a grammatically proper sentence...

Given that the Chorus map states for my address - RBI Broadband > 1 Mbps between Jul-2014 and Jun-2015 - I might just have to have another little think about the best way forward.

The aerial service lead will be replaced by chorus (either as part of the install or as a fault job after the 'intact' reconnection has failed - either way you dont have to pay as that is part of the chorus network and unless you by, accident or otherwise, damaged it (tree fall damaged is not normaly charged to the end user)
