I have had good experiences with Telecom Hotspots - mainly in the Wellington CBD (at Astoria I rather use the Telecom Hotspot than Cafenet but it's just the location). In Johnsonville it's the only option available, in the mall. Other places I used it - quite a decent speed, although I never tested it.

naa . not that fast at all. upload speed was 2mbps, which is good. download speed was just about the same. in the morning i was able to download a file at 150kbps. in the evening was only able to get about 50kbps. at about 7pm the speed was 15kbps. i dont know why it was that low. i have walked around the library, there was no one else using that wifi....

how can the speeds be so low? do the reserve the bandwidth for each user depending on the speed that it can serve at that given time or? do you think it will let me download at the maximum available speed for that hotspot?

Some hotspots often have ADSL like connections, and don't employ any form of connection filtering (ie. a free for all).

If someone was torrenting on it or something similar... things could get very slow.

I have also had a good experiences with Telecom Hotspots.

In April of this year (2007) while we where showing some of our UK family the top half of NZ, we where in Rotorua & I check my e-mails with the Telecom Hotspot in the Starbucks Café in Rotorua, I found it was it was good & not all that slow Smile
