Since xtra and yahoo have joined together, I am getting more spam. 1 or 2 unwanted emails a day.

Can I do anything, apart from changing my email address. Spam folder is activated.

Sorry to sound like a troll!!

But, one or tw unwanted emails a day!!??!! Is that all?

I usually get 20-25 per day, its quite a lot but it doesnt bother me to be honest as Thunderbird recognises them all as spam, so all I need to do is check them quickly and delete.

Yea, my Yahoo mail which was my first ever email I created is now filled with lots and lots of spam (both in Inbox and Bulk). I stopped using Yahoo services long back. Even If I get a Telecom account, I would never use the yahoo xtra account

One or two? My Exchange Server filters about 300 - 500 a day coming to my e-mail address. You don't have a spam problem...

In my bubble webmail client, I can see that I've received 2 spam messages, out of a potential 669 that were picked up as spam. The spam filter is working, however, with spam... there are always attempts to subvert them.

Those two were both picked up by Apples 'mail' email client and crushed for recycling.

OK, looks like mines is not a big as yours, jes we are not in the showers.

I was asking how I can stop them. I use MS Outlook on desktop. Any tools or maybe a better email client.

Microsoft Outlook has a built-in Junk Mail filter. You can set it to three different levels. Have you done it yet?

I assume the 1 or 2 you mention are getting past the spam filters? I get up to 6 a day out of 200 to 300 that end up in the bulk folder where I used to only get about 10 in a month get through . The ones getting through seem to be from and to xtra email addresses (including my own!) . I am expecting xtra to do something about it as the used to do a first class job and I am sure they will again soon. (touch wood) cheers George

I have a way but it does involve a bit of mucking around. At the moment I am receiving around 80-100 spam messages a day thanks to the Yahoo migration. Worse than that is that Yahoo is making a lot of false positives and labelling some of my customer's emails as spam. An effective work-around involves the use of Gmail.

If you do not have a gmail account, create one. If you want to be able to read the mail in your mail client go into the gmail settings and follow the instructions for forwarding and pop3.

Next log in to your Xtra yahoo bubble fiasco account online and go into Options - Mail options. First go into the spam tab and remove the checkbox beside "Automatically send suspected spam to the spam folder (this will mean that all mail including spam will be sent to your gmail account). Next click on the POP and Forwarding tab (it is broken like most of the stuff in bubble), then click on the link that says "Setup or edit POP and Forwarding". In Forwarding, add your gmail account and then it will go through the usual verify email address routine.

Once this is finished, you will be able to receive your email in the same way that you did from Xtra but with gmail cleaning all your mail up (it is quite accurate and hasn't labelled any legit emails as spam for me yet). I haven't received any spam yet although I do expect this to change a little. I had to do this workaround as I still cannot receive email since the migration which was 2 weeks ago.

yes that is an option. I have tried it before.
1/ When I first moved to Worldxchange and I had difficulties with POP3 access I forwarded my xtra mail to gmail and was flooded with SPAM mail being downloaded to my PC.
2/ With XTRA moving to Yahoo I find they dont support 800x600 in the new Beta and dont intend to in the future . (I need it for my vision problems) so I forwarded to gmail again. Same problem as before.
Not sure what to do longterm but I am back on xtrayahoo again.

Geomax, when I tested it on my VPC while travelling - I was given the option to go ahead anyway (pro beta). I was running in a resolution below 1048x768 as well.

Were you given that option?

yes but next time you go there it goes through the same process. I checked with Yahoo who say they will not support 800x600 when it is out of Beta .(I also have a free Yahoo account ) cheers George

lately (past 1-2 months) I have been getting a lot of spam past the SpamGaurd of yahoo mail, I usually have 1000-1200 in the spam folder (with delete setting for a month). On an average I must be getting 40 spams a day and since the last two months about 5-10 mails get past the filter to my Inbox. And the strangest part is that these are mails with Subjet as "MICROSOFT EMAIL PROMOTIO", yahoo lottery notification etc. I believe this must be true for most of the users since these mail will be marked as non-spam for all users. Doing some search over the past 3 months over the net did not come with any discussions over this except for something here,
Now, I have myself used spamassassin in a small office setup and seen the better results as more learning is done, though results may vary as per the setting to avoid false positives. I am at a loss in saying what exactly is going on at yahoo to fix this. as to my 2 cents, I regularly mark stuff which is spam as spam and have been marking the same stuff as spam many times, waiting for a result.

any observations ??

Spam is changing all the time. You see it with those image based spam emails, changing angles, using quotes from websites etc to try and appear normal.

At the moment most ISPs are in a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. Be highly aggressive with spam - high possibility that you'll flag mail as spam. Be cautious - some spam gets through.

Some 'innocent' mails get flagged - best way is to add address as a contact, select this is not spam, or whitelist the address or domain.

If some spam emails get through - mark them as spam. Is it really that difficult?

I get about 30 spam and 50 bulk a day now !!!! Maybe we should stop reporting these as SPAM and start sending the to Telecom directly, say Kevin Kennrick, then maybe they will do something to fix this problem. Other ISP's can properly filter spam!

As a side bar if you only have a pop address with TCNZ at a cost of a couple of bucks a month what will the credit be ?
