Hi guys, so I am moving to an area in Auckland that has UFB available, heard good things about BigPipe so decided to go with them instead of our current ISP, Vodafone.

Many people here have discussed high-end routers for BigPipe UFB, however I wanted to ask if anyone knows of budget-routers that would also work? I know that BigPipe UFB requires vLanTagging, however i'm not sure which routers support it apart from the NetComm NF4V and a few high-end ASUS routers which are all $>180.

Anyone have any suggestions for cheaper routers that are compatible?
I've currently got a couple of Vodafone Station SGH1500's - could these work in the short-term (can't find any info regarding vlantagging on these)?

Huawei HG630b. I am in no way shape or form recommending this but it'll work with our UFB. Instead of buying a higher end router outright, you can always have a look on Trademe for some higher-end second hand routers.

re-flashed with TomatoUSB shibby on it will work, not too bad for $50 but it's CPU will max out around 105mbps despite it having a gigabit WAN port.

The other part of me says you're on UFB, stop being cheap as it'll impact your experience :)

Thanks for the recommendations guys. Moving house is costing a fair bit, hence looking at short-term options regarding the router. I will likely end up getting the NetComm NF4V as recommended - never hurts to know your options.

If I can figure out how to patch my own Ethernet cables I won't need to worry too much about the WIFI signal :).

The cheapest "quality" product out there will be a Mikrotik RB951.

The only problem is if you have to ask about what hardware supports tagging then your technical knowledge may not be high enough to configure one as their is s steep learning curve to RouterOS.

AFAIK the Netcomm NF5 does VLAN tagging as well as gigabit WAN/LAN. It's given out by Vodafone to customers under contract, so you can get them dirt cheap. It's clearly not the best out there but I'm pretty sure it will do the basics for you

Just a follow up. Bought a Netcomm NF4V from PB-Tech for $160 on sale.
Everything was installed today. Followed the NF4V guide posted here and it's all working well :).

Getting about D: 96Mbps / U: 19Mbps.

Now to get CAT5 running to my room ;)
