Just seen the Titan on the telecom website.

https://www.telecom.co.nz/mobile/shop/front/0,,204449-201928,00.html?productCode=HTCTITAN&action=%2Fmshop_viewHandset

It looks nice...... but I think its out of my price range at the moment.

And its only windows mobile 5 - will they provide and update to windows mobile 6?

Isn't it a shame? Windows Mobile 6 is out there is some devices already, there are hints of a version after Windows Mobile 6 already ("For the record, there is corresponding client work that needs to be done to fully deliver this functionality to end user" about Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1) and they release a product with an old OS?

I can see having the MicroSD slot on the bottom of the device as an odd move.

Not everyone needs the latest OS. I still run 2000 Pro at home and have no desire to move to Vista. Same with Windows Mobile. Devices are only just starting to come out with 6. Some manufacturers I have spoken to are sticking with 5 at the moment because of 'some issues' with the later version.

Had a play with the Titan today - great unit. Much better size/shape than the Apache - the extra 5mm shaved off the thickness makes a hugeHugeHUGEHUGE difference!

The jog dial is awesome, and it looks to be better equipped software-wise than the Apache, with a couple of little productivity extras here and there.

Micro/mini SD whatever it is, on the bottom - yes, odd, but if it locks the card in well, I dont see an issue with it.

Front button layout/sizing is odd, but okay.

Keyboard slides out in opposite direction to Apache!, keys are smaller, but not by much, and easy to use, even with my big thumbs. Has got a caps and function indicator light, and the whole keyboard just seems firmer and 'better' than the Apaches one.

If you like your Apache/Treo700wx, you probably wont want to upgrade to this just for the sake of it.

If you hate your Apache/Treo700wx, but MUST have a PDA, then this could be a good move.

I love the whole no-aerial thing. Still a bit of a novelty to Telecom mobile users :-P

Sounds like the main difference is really just form factor/size. I think I'll stick to my WM6 equipped Apache for now.

I was hoping that this could be a nice upgrade path but if its running WM5 and there is no talk of a upgrade ASAP then its just a hardware refresh.

Got a chance to have a play with one yesterday. First impressions are good. Very slim compared to both the Apache and Treo, and very Blackberry-esque look and feel to it.

Still not a big fan of the ridiculous sized key boards, and for some reason, they have decided to put the stylus entry on the bottom by the port, so if it's sitting in a cradle, you have to take it out first.

Have concerns Apache users may find it a bit tinny, but my general feelings are that it's a big step in the right direction for Telecom, especially compared to the Treo

Overall a nice unit........ The look and feel is great, all round and "cute"

The apache fely like a protoype but this give the impression of being a nicely finished device.

Quick points:

The keyboard is great to type on and it slides out smoothly with a spring action very nicely.(opposite way to apache as Tony pointed out) the apache keyboard was hard to slide out.

The display is superb compared to the Apache

The device is a great size but a little too heavy for a true pocketable.

The loud speaker is awfully screechy and tinny.

The jog dial is a nice touch but it does not work all that well in many applications. It does have an Adjecent [OK] button however.

Call quality was ok but not very loud (not connected so incoming audio only)

Gone is that horrible joystick replaced by an unusal feeling, but responsive D-Pad which also works as a much better volume control.

I loaded WM6 on the Apache today and it's awesome... some very nice improvements.

This baby with WM6 will be fantastic.

I got mine, put the treo back in its box, spent most of the day loading all my favorite programs. Although I like the thumb wheel I feel its on the wrong side of the unit, I am right handed and having the wheel on the left is uncomfortable, got to use the index finger instead of the thumb, if I use it left handed cant slide the keyboard, overall good functionality, pity the data network was down wanted to check its download speed, has a program for internet sharing, looks like its for using the pda to connect to the net & your laptop connects through it, just like DUN, built in java, has voice speed dial, cameras not too bad, one thing I found odd, has a 512Mb micro disk but it doesnt come with the sd adapter? overall I think i will keep it even if its just to lose an antenna

After being a hard vodafone supporter since my first Alcatel OneTouch DB mobile a friend of mine sent me a link to this.

I had looked at other PDA type telecom phones before but just found that the tiny tiny keys on the Treo were wasted space that would have been better used for more screen space.

This titan puppy though is sweet very nice weight to it and it just feels nice.
Definately goign to get my hands on one soon as a nice way to get rid of my Nokia N70 and Sony CLIE as this device looks to have of what I like about both devices.

Any idea if this baby will be using the Rev0 network or the newer RevA network? If it still uses the Rev0 network and is sporting winMob5 instead of the newer winMob6, I don't see much reason to upgrade to this machine yet.

Its evdo rev a. Its sporting WM5 but from what I hear a WM6 update will be coming along hopefully. I've had mine for 5 days, so far so good, battery is alot better than the apache, good form factor, only thing I could fault it on so far is the quiet ring tones compared with the treo 700.

Titan is only Rev 0 :-)
I have one of these units and the big difference from both the Treo and the Apache seems to be battery life - very impressed!  I am a heavy user and used to go through 2 Apache batteries a day, The Treo would run out at the end of business day and the Titan lasts close to 2 days + still comes with a spare battery...oh and it was great to see a 512 micro included in the pack!
I agree about the scroll bar, very odd to choose the left side, it does appear to be perfect for the left handeds though :-)
I have also upgraded an old Apache to WM6, pretty cool but I wont be waiting around for it, Not a huge difference on the Apache, I have seen other devices that are pretty cool with it though!
PS Hi, First post :-)

Jeffthechef: I can see having the MicroSD slot on the bottom of the device as an odd move.

you may have overlooked the fact that the bottom half slides out  which then automatically changes the display to landscape. this the makes the memory slot on the left hand  side not the bottom.
