Does anyone know whether the Spotify Family discount (50% for additional family members on an existing premium account) applies when the premium account is supplied for free as part of a Spark plan?

Why not just try it and see? I'm sure you'll be able to cancel before confirming.

I did try and follow the instructions on the spotify website but what I was seeing didn't match the instructions. I wasn't sure whether this was because of the type of account (i.e. a complimentary premium account) or because I did something wrong. I was hoping someone else had done it and could confirm its possible, and maybe explain what I need to do.

This is direct from the Spotify website:

Can Spotify Family be used with other plans such as student discounts, or plans joined through a phone company, etc.?

Sorry, no. Only new Premium accounts can be created in this plan, and further discounts cannot be applied to plan accounts.

That to me means that you cannot use the family subscription with an account tied to your phone company.

Thanks for that.  I figured that would be the case, but it's good to have it confirmed.

In the end, I relented and took advantage of the buy 1 get 2 months free deal they were running at the end of December.  If the $69 Spark plan had more than just 1.5GB of data, I might have considered upgrading my $49/month plan to take advantage of the Spotify Premium freebie, but a net cost of $7 for just 250MB of data isn't really worth it...

If you can take advantage of the family subscription by getting friends/family on board who want premium too, you can save a little bit per month that way.  I recently got premium by piggy backing off my partner's account.
