Just noticed that there is a Firmware Update Huawei HG630b Gateway Available (Version V100R001C55B021).

You can get it from here: Updating your Huawei HG630b Gateway

Do not know what the changes/improvements are but did notice that it now forces you to change the default login and password - which is a good thing.

Just follow the instructions on the above page.

Cheers

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

I updated soon after Spark sent me the new modem, and frankly, I was happy to leave the log in at admin/admin, but it was too annoying having to 'Skip' the pw change screen every time I logged in.  It also times out quite quickly, which means you have to log back in sometimes, and are faced with the pw change screen even more often.

Saw this update a couple of months ago too but haven't bothered to update yet. Does anyone have the firmware update Release Notes now? What are the latest changes?

I am generally happy with HG630B except the on again off again issue with iPhone / iPad WiFi drops, which I tried all suggested fixes to no avail.

You should change the password. If for any reason your router has an open port to the Internet (with http, telnet or other access) someone can use it. Or if a computer on your network is infected with malware it could change the settings on the router to them allow incoming connections.

Always change the password.
