Does anyone know if you can sign up a Telecom data card onto a voice plan? eg Traditionally data cards have been signed onto data accounts, but is it technically possible (eg will Telecom allow it) to put a data card on a voice plan (eg a traditional cellphone plan, with free minutes, etc)?

Can be done technically but why? I don't think the cards have voice facility.. better off buying a PDA and using at as a modem (and for roughly double the price of a useless datacard, you also get a PDA which is a full phone etc..)

Remember that CSD calls are usually excluded from voice plans.

I'm trying to send SMS txt's from a Telecom account, preferably with the MegaTxt account option.

I've done the same so far with Vodafone (single Nokia phone + Gnommu (linux software to send sms's with nokia phones).

Unfortunately everything I've found shows that CDMA versions of phones have the ability to send SMS's disabled when using a PC link.

My only resort left is to get a data card (which you can use to send txt's through, at least on windows), put it on a voice plan, with MegaTxt.

We have a number of staff, each with either vodafone or telecom cellphones, and we are trying to set up a txt based notification for job updates, etc.

We've tried eTxt, but it becomes very expensive.

So I either need to get a data card, that I can configure to send txt's through, via linux, hooked up to a voice plan.

Or find a CDMA cellphone that you can use PC software to send txt's via. (eg gnokii)

I think this is the key point, and I am almost certain that it will be against business rules to-do so, although entirely possible.

Also, as $10/Mega TXT is for 'Person to Person' natonal SMS this would be against Telecom's T's & C's.

From the T&C itself

Person to person texts do not include text messages sent via automated, computer scripted or other electronic means using a CDMA modem or tethered (i.e. cable connected) CDMA handset

You can apparently tether a Harrier or Apache and use some software in outlook but I cannot remember which.

Harriers and falcons especially are very old and cheap now.

How about a telecom prepaid and send one text message to the whole group?  Something a bit easier to use than a cheap phone hopefully?

Sorry, don't follow what you are suggesting.

I have a mobile phone...  I have a phone book in that phone, and I have sub-groups where I put my contacts, like work, family and friends.  If I want to send a text message to all my family, for example, I go to write the message, select the contacts list, and then select the whole group. I tick the boxes to select the numbers I want to send the text to, write the message and send it.  If I have ten numbers selected I am billed for ten messages sent.  Which comes off my text allowance, of course.  (Or I get charged if I have sent too many...).

I use Pennytel.com as my VOIP provider.
One of the features of the plan is free TXT messages world wide.
You could in theory join up for $20 and then txt to your hearts content.
Is this possibly a solution to your problem?
