A short while ago we connected to ADSL With Telecom / Xtra.

Tonight it keeps dropping. I'm just curious as to if anyone in the Wellington / Hutt Valley is having issues?

Phones are working fine, as is our modem / router. It is just the actual ADSL connection dropping.

Interestingly when we had ADSL installed (Splitter) it took an extra day for ADSL to be connected.. The technician had to go back to the exchange. Any thoughts anyone?

I'm on the Te Rapa exchange in Hamilton and I've had similar problems last night pretty much, at the peak I was lucky to get more than maybe 5 mins of connection before the router had to try "re-logging in" or renegociate the connection with the exchange. I locked our router back to using ADSL1 and will see if that solves the problem but I've e-mailed xtra to get them to check their end also.

Still happening this morning. Definately not on my end unless there has been a mass ADSL settings change.

Dlinks will reboot with marginal signal to noise. Posting the ADSL statistics, attenuation etc., would be welcome. Given you have a master splitter I would swap the modem/router out first for something other than a Dlink.

You could also try a firmware upgrade... this helped me when I had similar issues (with a Netgear Wireless Modem/ Router).

I recommend contacting the Xtra helpdesk and getting them to check your line.

Chances are that once the tests are done, they should be able to make a few changes or get a tech out to check it.

Alright, looking further into this issue it seems that the problem is being caused by either my desktop / server computer or the routers LAN connections. I'm not overly sure how but heres some info:

Everything works fine until this one computer is connected via Ethernet. It's not the cable and still happens with a switch in between.
It takes about 10 minutes for it to drop. ADSL and Wireless drops but the LAN stays active - although the router can not be accessed

This is a problem that has just randomly started occurring.
I plugged my laptop in via Ethernet and set it to "ping 10.1.1.1 -t" a majority of the packets make it in less than a millisecond however every 4 or so the host is unreachable or pings are massive.
When using a switch, once the router has gone down the other computers can still communicate - just no internet.

The motherboard in this computer has issues and the LAN card is on board. I'm thinking this could be the issue but swapping it out will be a slight issue. My Apologies to Telecom / Xtra.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this issue?

Install another NIC instead of the onboard solution, quick and cheap. If the onboard solution is sending out malformed frames it could be causing the router to hang and/or behave strangely.
