Hi all,

Firstly, we've logged a support issue with BigPipe but I thought I would see if anyone has any further ideas on this one.

We recently moved into a new property, the previous tenants had ADSL with Vodafone and we were lucky enough to use their connection for the last few days before the switch over to BigPipe.

Now that we've switched to BigPipe the connection speeds reported by the modem have dropped significantly, with the Vodafone connection it was 10-11mbs, now we are lucky to get 7mbs. The only thing I can see that is different is interleaving is off.

Has anyone else seen something like this happen? All equipment on our end has remained the same.

Here's a full output from the modem (sadly don't have one from when Vodafone was connected)

Probably moved off LLU gear to Chorus gear with a higher SNR, thus lower sync speed.

Possible that the Vodafone Connection was LLU and on a faster profile than Chorus (who Bigpipe buy from) use.

I had the same issue myself but in reverse. Would only get 7Mbit (8Mbit on a really good day) and when I switched to Vodafone (with changing the profile) I now get 10.5Mbit

Thanks for the replies.

Sounds like you've got this figured out, might be worth switching to Vodafone (or are there other providers with LLU? We're in Wellington Central).

Looking at the Chorus site:

Network capability:

  • Business fibre available
  • Broadband > 10 Mbps
Network upgrade scheduled:

  • UFB fibre up to 200 Mbps between Jul-2017 and Jun-2018 frown

If you're off the Wellington Central Exchange I'm sure there will be multiple ISPs who have gear in the exchange.

Might pay to check with the staff at Vodafone / Orcon / Slingshot on if they have LLU gear installed for your address
