I am currently on an open term pay monthly plan with Vodafone. I am looking to port to Spark's open term pay monthly.

My question is, should I change my current pay monthly plan on Vodafone to prepay, then complete the port? My reasoning is so that I can pay off what is owing on my current month's account?

Or, should I simply port it, and Vodafone will automatically send me a bill? I worry that Vodafone may not let me port until the current month's charges are billed and paid?

Any advice would be great!

I port my phones regularly between Spark n Vodafone.

You just port the phone *any* time. Vodafone will send the final bill including the part month you use.

Don't bother telling vodafone anything since you are on open term.

Any reason for moving to Spark?

Well, I went from Spark to Vodafone, stayed with them for 6 months, then realised how poor the coverage was and still is. I often get missed calls, or the signal would bomb out for a few seconds.

As others have already said. As long as you are on an open term and no contract or anything else that would sting you when you close your account at Vodafone then just port away.

Vodafone will close the account once you port away (as you have no active services) and send you a final bill / credit on the account.

No Mobile providers can stop you from porting, all they can do is send you a nasty bill if you have postpaid services and have a contract which means they can charge you Early Termination Charges on whatever you signed up for.

How long does a port typically take? As this is a main business number I need to make sure it does not go offline for any length of time.

Ive had phones on both spark and vodafone, and just be aware that when you move because one is more awesome than the other, you will find just as many places where you now dont have coverage where you used to have coverage before. I would suggest checking the important places out first on a prepay spark sim to be sure you have coverage and that it works in those locations before making the jump incase it gets worse.

or carry 2 phones, one on each network.

I didn't know what I had until I didn't have it - as the saying goes.

I was on Spark for a good 6 months and really didn't have any coverage issues until I thought Vodafone was a good idea.

Now I am crawling back (Homer Simpson style) back to Spark aka Mr Burns :)

Normally you tee up the exact time the port order will run, then it runs through various systems internally within Spark and then to IPMS and off to the LSP.

I know when I have ported numbers in the past it runs at a certain date and time and is done in 10-20 mins. I had it that my Spark number was active and the LSP number was still active too for a few hours. Outbound calls from my spark landline worked to the new number and calls on the LSP mobile network still went to the old number.

It's all about when the IN gets updated across all providers.
