I’m using a Samsung S5 Duos, on the 2degrees and Spark networks. My Spark plan has a data allowance. I’m using the Blue Mail app.
I have four email accounts; my own website, Windowslive, Gmail and Woosh. The send email settings are;
My Web site
mail.mywebsite.net
port-25

Windowslive
smtp.live.com
port-25

Gmail
Smtp.gmail.com
port-25

Woosh
Smtp.woosh.co.nz
port-25

I have noticed the Woosh account on my android, will only send when connected to my home Woosh wifi network. All the other email accounts work fine, but not Woosh.

I have tried, port-26, port-2525, SSL on port-587 and SSL on port-465, with no luck. Blue Mail checks outgoing server settings and gives port-25 a pass. However when you try and send an email, it won’t send.

Any ideas?

It's to do with Woosh's settings - if you want to send via their smtp server you'll need to be on a Woosh connection. Else use a different smtp server.

Do you mean I can use another smtp server, to send from a Woosh email account? Or use another smtp server altogether, let's say with Gmail etc, to send Email's?

I wonder what it is about Woosh that won't allow emails to be sent through the Spark network?

Use another smtp server when you're not using the Woosh connection was more what I meant.

If I recall correctly it's due to something spam-related and affects all other connections, not just Spark's. Have you spoken to Woosh about it?

I understand now.

I might fire an email to Woosh about the issue, I won't hold my breath.

I'll probably migrate away from using the Woosh email, over the next year.

Thanks for your help!

I had this issue when I was a woosh customer.  Unfortunately, I found out about it when traveling and could not do anything about it.
Spoke with woosh when it happened and you'll be wasting your time for a resolution, they cannot do anything about it

Also if you are using port 25 for sending you will find that many connections will block it, you should use either 465 or 587 for sending, whichever your mail provider supports.

If woosh dont support authenticated SMTP over TLS on an alternate port then IMO they are not suitable for using off their network.

The Woosh setup is best practice and no different to how any SMTP server will be set up by any ISP.

Allowing access to SMTP without authentication from outside the ISP network is a massive security hole, and for that reason you'd struggle to find any reputable ISP anywhere in the world that would have let this happen - all would have moved to blocking access to their SMTP servers from outside the network.

If you want to access the Woosh SMTP from outside their network you'll have to ask if they support SMTP Auth which means you need to authenticate a username against it, which means it can be opened up outside their network.

With your gmail account you can setup outbound emails as another account including your woosh account.

However if it were me, I would setup gmail to pull all your email using POP from your woosh account and try and ditch it all together so stop sending emails using your woosh account all together.

Having ISP specific email addresses is just painful and makes moving ISPs difficult / impossible if you are dependent on the address for business. Register your own domain and host it with whoever you want to use (or pay for Google Apps)
