Hi, so I was looking as getting a new Medem/Router combo yesterday to replace my Technicolor TG582n which was provided by Telecom a few years back. I did some digging around the house and found my old router (Cisco EA4200) and spent ALL day yesterday trying to get this to work as intended:

I am trying to set the modem to function only as a modem and the router to do NAT, QOS, Wireless, etc.

The Technicolor has an option to go into Bridge mode, but when I do this it deletes the ability to enter PPPoA details so I can't see in this mode how the Router will get connectivity?

The router has a few options: Auto (DHCP (something like that)) PPPoE Telstra Cable And some VPN options such as PPTP.

What settings should I be using (for Spark ADSL2+)

I've been told this isn't possible but when I searched for help on it I saw a few people from NZ refer others to buying this router on Telecom/Spark network.

Please Halp, I've never spent some much time on something without success

You can't enable bridge mode for ADSL2+ as all ADSL in NZ is ATM based so can't be bridged to your Ethernet LAN.
If your Technicolor supports PPTP passthrough (command line configuration only, guide here) you may be able to enable the PPTP WAN option on the EA4200.
(NZ ADSL is 0.100 instead of 8.35)

Otherwise often recommended here is the Vigor 120 (ADSL only) or 130 (ADSL/VDSL) modem/router which supports PPPoE passthrough and can act as modem for your set up.

Thanks, that being the case am I better off buying a modem/router combo? Is there anything good around the 150$ mark?

I thought you could do PPPoE for EUBA connections, long as its tagged correctly.

Only if ISP accepts, Spark don't.

Hi all,
Thanks for your help, I ended up buying a Vigor 120 yesterday which arrived this morning. Set it up today to bridge PPPOA -> PPPOE and now I've the results I was looking for, and with minimal effort too!
