That makes sense, thanks.
Do you know if sparks naked fibre 30 unlimited is throttled at all? i.e. gaming or torrenting. I would be switching from sparks adsl which has been really solid for me for the past 5 or so years so don want to switch to something that is flaky.

Spark do not artificially throttle or limit any of their unlimited plans (they even took the clause that they might do it out of the contracts recently).

That sounds good. Sorry for so many questions but do you think their supplied fibre modems are any good? You get one free if you sign for 12 months. Naked Fibre 30 unlimited sounds like a great deal which makes me suspicious, they are a Telco after all. ;)

You could try and find out , and if it doesn't meet your requirements purchase another for yourself from elsewhere and then on sell the "free" one

I am on Spark Vdsl (fibre not available where i live yet ) and are happy with the supplied modem i received when the install happened over a year ago now which was also "free"

I hear they are quite good, and they support ADSL, VDSL, and Fibre. You can also turn off wifi, bridge a different wifi router, so plenty of choice. And as stated you can buy another fibre modem if you choose. But, having said that, if you use ours, it works out of the box, and you will get support.

That seems to answer all my questions. Thanks to all who responded. Now I just need to sell it to the wife. :)

They are pretty average.  Probably fine for UFB30,  but I wouldn't expect them to route 100Mbps very well at all.

The spark Technicolor one I had struggled with 20Mbps VDSL and torrents - crashed and rebooted.

With Fibre the input is a standard RJ45 copper - so you can use literally ANY router that supports VLANs and PPPOE.

As in other threads Mikrotik are awesome for the price but quite complicated.

I just keep the Spark one in a box in case I need support.

I had a Mikrotik on my VDSL for a while but I never managed to get it to play nicely in terms of getting a suitable window size. I eventually removed it for troubleshooting and put an HG630 in place and it worked so well I have simply left it in place . (Spark VDSL - about 38M down)

Cheers - N

must have had a dud,

62/10 vdsl, great wifi coverage and speed (streams HD fine), no crashes/reboots, and happily runs torrents.

Entirely possible - but ramp up the number of connections on your torrent client and watch it explode :)

125 per torrent, 15 active torrents so almost 2000 there.

there is really no reason to have any more, and my settings are probably overkill but they are from when i was on ADSL

You must have had a dud
