Hi

We currently have a telecom phone line but we only use it for broadband and local calls (which are free)
Is there any provider that wont charge a line rental?

If you live in an area of Wellington, Christchurch or the Kapiti Coast you can move to TelstraClear and don't need to have a phoneline to have broadband.

Otherwise it's a matter of waiting for naked ADSL to arrive. This will mean you will be able to sign up for a broadband connection using a Telecom line but won't need to pay for the cost of a landline. Hopefully you should be able to do this by very early 2008.

You need a phone line for local calls, don't you?  Or a "phone service" anyway, which you would need to pay for (in some form or another).

If you didn't type this wrongly, then even with Naked DSL, you would have to get a "phone service".  Might be cheaper, but all the same, if you want to make local calls, they're not "free", they're just "unlimited usage for a fee".

But as posted just above, you will still need to pay a monthly fee, whatever service you choose. Local calls are not "free" aywhere, they are just part of the line cost.
