I have a QNAP NAS onsite that runs a DDNS client - since Wednesday 12.00am I've been receiving emailing about 10mins apart of the External IP changing. I ignored it for a day or so but it still seems to be happening.

I just manually checked the external IP now and it changed from 122.59.2.xxx to 210.55.212.xxx

anyone else noticing these constant changes? I thought even though they are dynamic addresses they were supposed to remain fairly static? previously I've rebooted routers to try and get a new address and it has remained the same.

This means your xDSL connection is dropping, with Spark if your connection drops and modem has to re-auth you'll be given a new IP.

Spark used to have sticky IP's. They have now moved back to new IPs on every new PPP session.

The fact yours is changing indicates a modem/router that's either continually losing sync, PPP or a combination of both.

ok, its back again....

ive also noticed it happening to another site here in hawkes bay also on adsl and with the same router. my guess now is it has something to do with the router firmware and the gear it is connected to..

anyone else seeing similar happenings with the Telecom Business 2701HGV-W?

Please PM me the details of where this is occurring, and I can look into this.

I don't think it's dropping the connection, I see exactly the same behaviour on certain websites with every separate request apparently coming via a separate IP in the 210.55.212.0/24 range. It breaks certain things for me, and I strongly suspect it's transparent proxy related.  Try opting out of the transparent proxy.

How are you checking the external IP address?

1) Looking in the router UI for the WAN address or

2) Using a web based what is my IP service?

Sounding like flakey DSL if it's every 10-20mins.  Suggest you log a fault.

Phone the helpdesk, get them to create an incident, make them take down all the websites you are having issues with.

Send me your details and the incident number.

I truly wish I had a better response.

Cheers - Neil G

beginning to think you may be right about this... rang the help desk and created a case, the csr could only see the 122.xxx addresses being assigned and not any of the 210.xxx addresses

unfortunately he tried to pass me on to complex support but cut me off!... waiting for a callback but will try them in the morning..

here's a snip of the logs
