I have recieved info that idicates that the Taradale exchange is a half-and-half facility, with one half reasonably modern and able to support broadband, and the other half still locked in the dark ages.

I'd like to hear from NZ Telecom (if they are brave/honest enough to respond here) as to whether this is correct.

If it IS correct, are there any plans to rectify this situation? If it is not true, why are a large number of consumers in this area still not able to access decent speed internet?

I'd really appreciate a response from TCNZ on this, as my super-slow dial-up connection is driving me NUTS!!

My parents place is on the Taradale exchange. Broadband is fine, no issues with it and nice and fast. It's an old exchange tho and so some smartphone services (Namely Caller ID and Faxability) are annoyingly not available and never will be until the NGN is rolled out in Telecom, which I doubt will be any time soon.

I think you'll find that broadband access is based on a supply-demand basis.

If there is low demand for broadband in an area - then there isn't much reason to significantly invest large amounts of money that isn't going to do anything.
