I need a quick data solution and am with Telecom. I posess both a Nokia 2865 and a Sanyo 6600 Ice and want to go on to the 200mb Telecom Data Plan

In the central Christchurch area with a Data Cable plugged to the phone, My Vista Laptop and Nokia PC Suite ; what sort of browsing speeds would I get,  I need at least qualit dialup speed if not 128k ( sigh .. jetstart 128 memories )

Anyone tried the data on either of these two phones ?

Any help / advice appreciated

Matt

Only your Nokia 2865 will support this, and this is a CDMA 1XRTT device, which inturn supports speeds of upto 153Kbs, averaging between 40-80kbs.

I'm not sure you would be able to get the 200MB plus plan on this device through, I understand it is ment to be for Data (i.e. PDA's / Aircards) Devices only.

Yes, you must choose a data plan of some sort to be able to use your phone in this manner.  You must also have the handset connected on a plan - you cannot use data on a prepaid mobile.

If you already have a plan - sweet: visit your Telecom store or give 123 a call and ask to have the 200 MB plan added to your account.  If you go to a Telecom owned store (ie, not Leading Edge, etc) they have direct access to your account and can load it within a few minutes (officially, 4 hours); the other stores will send a request away to another team to load it.

If you don't have a plan added and go ahead and use it you will be charged the casual rate: $8/MB.  You will need to get hold the data cable (CA-53) and modem drivers (Nokia website), but once set up this works well.

Cheers, Jason.

My advice, dont even TEST the connection until you have a data plan loaded. I have seen some huge blowouts ont he casual rate.

Expect around 70-110kbps on a good day, thats what I used to get on the dirty old Nokia 6385 (my, how far we have come!).

Best CDMA 1X speed I had was ~145Kbps (Very unusual!)
