When did Bigpipe start charging $45 for a static IP?

I was pretty sure when I signed up for UFB last year that it was free? I've finally got my UFB install date confirmed for next week but was disappointed to see that they will be charging to not have CGNAT enabled on your connection. I don't really care about having a static IP, mainly just care about CGNAT.

CGNAT is a reality because of the limited IPv4 address space (and the slow pace at which things are changing to IPv6). Not something you can grumble at any particular ISP about (not that I get that from the tone I read into your message).

Vodafone still charge $20/month for a Static IP on residential connections. $45 one-off is a bargain by comparison. :)

We've always charged $45 for Static IP, you sure you're not referring to Public IP?

Public IP was free.

No Public IP offering since they offer Static IP.

Unless you dont want a static, but do want to be able to use normal internet protocols, then its an additional cost. Bring back the public IP I say.

Sorry I was meaning Public IP. Again, as stated when I signed up I was under the impression that once I was connected I'd be able to disable CGNAT on my connection for free. Now I see that I need to purchase the static IP for $45 if I want to get rid of CGNAT.

I know $45 isn't going to break the bank, but it would have been nice to know you were planning to scrap that policy after I had signed up.

Well, depending on when you ordered it, I expect at the time we didn't have specific plans to scrap it, so we couldn't very well tell you about those plans if they didn't exist :)

Having said that, we did warn in the FAQs and Ts and Cs for the public IP (and also it's been discussed on geekzone) that when ordering public IP there is a chance we might charge for it in the future. (we're usually pretty careful not to say we will 'never' do something)

Appreciate your frustration though. It's very tricky trying to manage plans etc when UFB installations can take many months. With the speed stuff changes in the broadband world, there is always going to be a chance that what you originally signed up for may not exist anymore as a product.

When did you first make the request for a public IP? (one of the handy things about email only support, you don't need to remember whether you made the request or not and when, it will all be there in your emails) - or if you PM me your email address I can look it up)?

If the original request was back when we still offered public IP for free, then I think it's fair for us to honour the request so I can sort that for you.

(In the spirit of 'never saying never' bear in mind there is still a chance that we might charge public IP customers at some point in the future too - although that is pretty unlikely)

But can we get a non static public IP, as in not as easy to track for sites and services we visit? Not as easy target for people if you p**s someone off in a game. As my cousins have 11 and 13 year olds. That happens a lot.

That should be possible, but it will be the same price as a static - $45.

(If you already have one, you can keep it though)

Ok, I never got one on my connection because I only use it for torrents and rsync/ftp from the seedbox. Which has stopped mostly due to being out of space at the moment.

Cousins kids play games all day so will need it I am assuming. Also parents will need VPN in for stuff. Im assuming there is no way to get a range of incoming ports when behind CG nat?
