I have an issue which I suspect is caused by Spark's transparent proxy. They want $15+GST monthly for a static IP which I understand bypasses it.
Since Bigpipe shares some of the infrastructure does it also use the transparent proxy or one of its own?
Thanks :)

we don't have a transparent proxy.

The only infrastructure we share with spark is the stuff that everybody shares e.g. international bandwidth.

(we charge $45 as a one-off for a static IP if that's what you want)

On a related note, could you please give more detail in e-mails informing customers of network changes being made? Any time I see such notices I immediately think if they stick in a transparent proxy, it's time to change ISP.

I'm referring to the two e-mails, March 30th and April 7th, both of which advised of five minute network outages. The second of these e-mails appears to have been for "ADSL pllanned outage" (sic), so I was unsure if this even applied in my case.

Hi,
You shouldn't have received the second email.  the first one was for UFB customers, the second for ADSL.  I'll have a look into why you got the second one. (and also make fun of whoever did the spelling mistake embarassed )

There are always bits and pieces of network work going on. Mostly you don't hear about them because they happen without you noticing.
If we were to do anything that would affect your connection, we let you know but we don't want to spam you with emails all the time.

Having said that, I'll talk to the team about the appropriate level of detail we put into the emails regarding what's happening. It's important to get a balance right between providing enough information, but also not going into too much detail that will just create more questions, or creating lengthy emails that people won't read.   Our general philosophy is 'less is more' and if people want more detail they can ask.

Since you ask, in this case what happened was a migration of customers across to a "Pseudowire Headend Termination"

I must say I was stunned to get an outage notification from BigPipe, mainly as I don't recall ever having an outage notification from any residential ISP ever. I normally think of it something reserved for business grade connections.

Great to see! Keep it up! Also I don't expect a high level of technical detail, what was sent out was perfectly acceptable.

Maybe a sticky thread in this forum, for those who want to know and may have the capacity to understand that QOS will come soon after PWHE :)

Talking of making fun of people making spelling mistakes, you might also want to have a laugh at "philosiphy"!

But, I must admit, the 'i' and 'o' are next to each other so just a little finger slip? However, your spelling checker should have let you know!

(Now, must carefully check my message!!).
