Hi all, yesterday I got fibre installed through Spark, however its not working. When the transfield installer left he said everything has tested fine but spark haven't activated the service yet and to give it an hour or so.

Fast forward a few phonecalls to spark and they have activated the service and done line tests or whatever they do from their end and all checks out okay, they say they need to send a technician out which could take up to a week.

I have a white Huawei ONT box installed in the lounge which is connected to the standard issue Spark (also Huawei) fibre home modem.

All required lights on both boxes are lit except the internet light on modem.

Does anyone have any ideas I could try to get this up and running without waiting for technician? I'm currently resorting to mobile data which is fast running out!

Cheers,
Shay.

My Chorus ONT when working has the green optical light flashing at regularly interval, and the LAN1 orange light flashing randomly as data is passed between the ONT and the Huawei HG630b router.  Is that what you see on the ONT?

The Huawei has the Internet, WAN and wifi flashing randomly as data is sent.

Tried resetting the Huawei router?

What happens if you plug in directly to the ONT? (Not sure if the ONT itself is doing the authentication then passing out an IP address, or if the Router has to authenticate

Are you with Ultra Fast Fibre? Does Spark still do PPPoE and VLAN tagging on UFF?

Yeah, you don't stop your old connection until UFB is working. My UFB took 8 months from the date I applied, and quite a lot of time after the date they said it'd be available.

On the ONT box I have Power and PON solid green and LAN1 blinking in time with WAN light on router.

I'm guessing the router is just used as an access point as there's no username or password required in the setup wizard.

If I connect PC direct to ONT I still get nothing, just unidentified network, no internet access.

As for spark PPPoE and VLAN tagging, I'm not sure what that means sorry, I'm an amateur.

Also, when I log into the router, on the fibre WAN page it say status:up, rate:1000, mode: full. I'm no expert but this would tell me the fibre connection is fine?

On the network connection page it says Spark_fibre disconnected, occasionally saying connecting but after trying for a minute it goes back to disconnected.

I'm thinking there's something not activated at sparks end, does this sound right?

http://www.spark.co.nz/help/internet-data/equipment/huawei/hg630b-gateway/set-up-your-spark-modem-huawei-hg630b-gateway/

I would factory reset the modem then start again from the above page.

but there is heaps of helpful information on this page:

hope some of that helps

Spark doesn't need to do anything in order for your fibre connection to authenticate - it should work as soon as Chorus have commissioned the connection (before the tech signs the job off as complete) - The only exception to this is if you requested a static IP - that needs to be manually provisioned on the connection by Spark before your connection will work properly.

All too often the techs leave the premises saying the connection will be up "in half an hour" - it's a load of rubbish. If it's not working before he leaves, something is wrong.

The views expressed by me are not necessarily those of my employer Chorus NZ Ltd

Depending on the ISP it is either untagged or Vlan 10.
Again depending on the ISP it is either DHCP or PPPoE.
