Hello.

Been experiencing some unusually high ping today to some australian servers. Seems be telstra related from what I can see on a tracert, heres an example:

Tracing route to 101.167.164.38 over a maximum of 30 hops

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms dsldevice.lan [192.168.1.254]
2 8 ms 13 ms 14 ms 222-152-240-1.jetstream.xtra.co.nz [222.152.240.1]

17 199 ms 199 ms 199 ms 101.167.164.38

Trace complete.

Thought this might be related to the storms in NSW, but I've asked a couple of aussie friends and they haven't noticed any ping problems. Just wondering if anyone has an insight into what could be causing this.

Spark VDSL in auckland, i get 152ms

it looks like it the AAPT hop that adds all the latency to it

On some other traceroutes it was the .telstra.net step adding the latency. I just posted that tracert first as that was the most recent one I had done.

Heres another example without the aapt hop:

Tracing route to 103.240.227.5 over a maximum of 30 hops

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.1.254
2 9 ms 9 ms 4 ms 222-152-240-1.jetstream.xtra.co.nz [222.152.240.1]
3 * * * Request timed out.
4 24 ms 22 ms 23 ms ae8-10.akbr6.global-gateway.net.nz [122.56.116.5]
5 23 ms 22 ms 24 ms ae5-2.akbr7.global-gateway.net.nz [210.55.202.213]
6 46 ms 47 ms 47 ms xe0-0-4.sgbr3.global-gateway.net.nz [122.56.127.94]
7 48 ms 46 ms 43 ms ae7-10.sebr4.global-gateway.net.nz [122.56.127.214]
8 47 ms 47 ms 47 ms ae-4.a00.sydnau02.au.ra.gin.ntt.net [103.13.80.121]
9 47 ms 47 ms 47 ms 202.68.65.22
10 184 ms 174 ms 175 ms gigabitethernet3-9.ult2.sydney.telstra.net [139.130.74.5]
11 172 ms 170 ms 171 ms bundle-ether7-100.ken-core10.sydney.telstra.net[203.50.20.1]
12 172 ms 171 ms 171 ms bundle-ether1.ken-edge902.sydney.telstra.net [203.50.11.97]

Not sure what hop 9 is, but when that turns up in a tracert ping goes bad.

get the same result as you for that one

could be that server causing the delay? but then it could just be deprioritizing ICPM traffic

I get ~32-33ms from Wellington to those IPs via our (non-Spark) corporate connection which is currently using Vocus for the international transit
