Hi!

Just moved from VF to BigPipe.
Using a HG556a and all reconfigured to connect via PPPoA etc.

On VF I would connect at around 16-17 Mbps. - download at 1.6 to 1.8 MBps
On BigPipe, its connect at 10.Mbps. - download (now) at 1MBps

Quite a considerable drop!

Is this the difference (speed difference) between VF equipment (I assume LLC)  and Chorus equipment?

Need more info. Assuming this is xDSL, line stats and location would be a good start.

Downstream sync looks a little low for the attenuation but that could just be a lot of crosstalk from nearby connections. Noise margin on Chorus gear should be 12dB, given yours is at 12.5 it suggests noise is varying - if there's been a lot of rain in your area this can affect the lines, so may pay to recheck once things dry out.

As for if you were on ULL with VF, one of their fixed line guys can probably confirm where they have their gear.

I'm in agreement with Runningman about your downstream, but the upstream drop is common to see if you were on ULL with Vodafone (as mentioned above).

Have you contacted support about this just to double check? If so then PM me your details and I'll get someone to have a look at it :)

See my posts when I switched to Bigpipe, speed dropped in a big way. Switched back to Vodafone so I could get away from Chorus gear, if I was to switch again it would be Slingshot or Orcon as they also run there own gear.

If it was fibre then I'd go to Bigpipe, but no such luck where I live.

Lurch: Well it took awhile switching back to Vodafone, just some before and after below.

Twitch/WoW/Streaming back to working :-)

No complaints about the customer service with Big pipe, was fast on the reply but wasn't getting anywhere with a result with sorting out the issue.

Complaints about Vodafone customer service though, but wont go there.

A shame I can't get VDSL :-/

Ive dropped support an email to switch back to VF. The drop for me is too much, and with my added need to use PPPoE rather than PPPoA (DDWRT Setup), bigPipe ADSL just isnt for me.

Wish I had done my complete research first!

I'm not 100% sure on this and I'm sure somebody from Big Pipe will clarify but I'm pretty certain from another post on here that Big Pipe support PPPoE. There are a number of ISPs that do as EUBA natively supports both within the Chorus network (and when you do use PPPoA it is converted to PPPoE by the ISAM) - it's simply a matter of the ISP supporting it (as it comes in on a different VLAN), and the customer CPE being able to do a VLAN10 tag.

Well if thats the case sBiddle, then thats OK. I suppose a $45 one off for an IP could be paid as well.

@Flickky - can you confirm? I can be changed onto a PPPoE connection?

I may have to retract that ADSL cancellation and UFB order!

Bigpipe UFB uses PPPoE by default.
I'm sure the support team will be able to sort you out if you ask for your connection to run over PPPoE. You might need to tag it as VLAN 10, though.

Out of interest why do you want a PPPoE connection rather than PPPoA? Bridge mode on a modem to a more powerful router, perhaps?

Edit: Just saw why. Ignore the second bit. sealed

Bigpipe use port authentication. It won't work by default. Best he'll get is a splash page saying there's a problem with his connection, and to contact support.

Yes it is working.
ADSL over PPPOE.

Felix from support @ bigpipe sent me the details.
Just sorting out the ddwrt and WAN VLAN10 configuration out now.
Managed to get a WAN IP in ddwrt but browsing returned a bigpipe splash page about something being wrong, maybe a port issue the page suggests.

UPDATE:
So it does work BigPipe over PPPoE, with a HG556a working as a modem and then DDWRT making the connection and receiving a WAN IP.

So mucking around with VLAN bollox is DDWRT and it works.

Anyway, i'll still shift back to VF. The setup just worked and the drop of 600-800 KBps is a deal breaker, when at the end of the day its about the actual speed you get day to day.

Cheers for the replies.
