Finally made the switch and can see that 2 Degrees could definitely learn a few things from them! 2 Degrees were the go to for the cheap plans but I'm currently loving my $26 with 1.5GB data and another 1GB bonus for porting my number. Plus I found the website so much better and easier to find things, the layout just made a lot more sense.

Also having reception at work was just a bonus with Skinny :-D

For so long I thought ewww Skinny, but glad I finally made the change. (Yet to use the customer service, one thing 2 Degrees were good at I found, they had good CSRs)

Interesting topic as I am wondering if I am getting the best value from 2Degrees at the moment.  Checking the Skinny Web-site the $26 Combo says 1GB of data. You say you are getting 1.5GB, plus an extra 1GB for switching on this Combo. Is this correct?  2.5GB of data for $26, plus carry over minutes, etc is very attractive to me.

I'm currently doing the $16 combo with 1GB additional data for $10. It is only until June but the 1GB for $26 will still be beneficial for me because 500MB just ain't enough :-D I got the further additional 1GB because I ported my 2D phone number over as well.

Oh and thanks for reminding me about the app downloading now.

I switched from 2degrees to Skinny after recently moving house and getting only 1 bar reception on 2degrees there.

I've been on post paid plans for about the last 10 years, so wasn't sure about moving to prepay again, but the auto credit card top up and auto combo renewing takes away any hassle there.  Saving $3/mth going from the $29 plan to Skinny's $26 plan was a nice bonus too.

The only thing I found lacking was that they don't support call forwarding, so I can't use 2talk voicemail => email anymore.

Thanks for the clarification @Distorter. Is that 1GB for switching permanent, or only for a limited time?

Sounds pretty good. Few questions...
1) The $26 I guess is made up of the $16 combo + $10 data add-on? I see it ends 30 June. Does that mean you won't get the add-on any more, or you just can't sign up for it but anyone on it keeps it?
2) How do you get the 1GB bonus for porting, does it just happen automatically? Is it 1GB per month or just a one off?
3) Other than the 500MB you get with the $16 combo, are all the rest of the data components rollover? Or do they at least get used first?

Edit: Bit slow replying and most of my questions have been answered above!

:-P Sorry I made it look too good, the 1GB for porting is just a one off. Once it is used that is it. It doesn't continue on.

Everyone would jump ship if that was the case.

Are you able to answer these questions Paul (aka Skinny)? Also interested in the answers. Thanks

I made the switch along with my wife a few months ago.  both on the $16 plan now after being on some horrendous $89+ plan at 2D. Mainly for the roll-overstuff, not using much so might drop to the $9.  Not much out there for people that dont use much anymore... but still want a cheap plan.

One thing to mention though is that the widget is not very good, and does eat up you data, ive stopped it running in the background so now it only updates when i use the ap.
In one month it used approx 50mb.. according to the android data usage meter

I really wish they would support call forwarding.

The $10 for 1GB Add-On is currently a promotion until the end of June.  Then it reverts back to the original price which was $20.

Only the Combo data rolls over.  The other data will be used first.

Thanks for the clarification Paul, I got a little excited when I saw other forums with previous deals stating that if they had the $$ to cover the roll over you kept the deal but that is a service which is on special.

I switched from 2 degrees to Skinny a bit over a year ago. Just went for the $16 plan.
2 degrees coverage at home kept dropping out - it has been solid on skinny (Central Auckland).
Skinny implemented the rollover minutes and more recently the rollover data - so pretty happy about that - I am getting a very nice accumulation.
Was pleasantly surprised when they enabled the 4G network last year as well.

The only that that annoys me (there will always be something) is that stupid $0.20 charge for accessing voicemails. Why it cant just take a minute off your talk balance I just dont know. Always means you have to keep a scrappy balance for possible voicemail access.

Yes I know that with skinny you can turn off the ability for people to leave voicemails - nice feature - but as mentioned - would sooner voicemail access cost was taken off the talk minutes balance.

To email would be perfect.
