So on Tuesday im transitioning from Vodafone to Bigpipe UFB.

Just wanted to clear up a few things config wise,

there is no requirement for vlan 10 on bigpipe?

Is anyone else using a mikrotik device on bigpipe

correct, no requirement for VLAN10 on Bigpipe (although if you want the connection ordered with VLAN tagging you can request it. some equipment can't do UFB without VLAN tagging)

No idea on the microtik though.

Make sure it has Gigabit Ethernet ports to get full 200/200.

Nope, not a chance lol...

You will want the 850Gx2 or the baby Cloud Core Router

edit: Just to qualify the statement. We install a RB2011 for all our customers but only provision 100Mbps circuits. At 100Mbps with PPPoE the CPU is at around 70-80%.

I used to have a Mikrotik RB951G which was totally fine on 100mbit UFB however when I switched to 200/200 it struggled to cope (got around 140mbit NAT throughput). I have since lost this router and need to find it :)

Currently using a Netgear R7000 and it performs totally fine on my 200/200 connection.

A 951 isn't going to cope unless you use the new 6.29 fasttrack feature, however I'm pretty sure that doesn't actually work with PPPoE.

I have my 951 working on a 200/20 pppoe connection.

I get my rated speeds on speedtest.

To be honest i havent really tried to saturate the connection, but i do get my max speeds on downloads, i also havent tried to max out the upload at the same time...

CPU does get in the 80-90% range when maxxing out download.

I would say if you were trying UL/DL at the same time then no the unit isint going to cope.

I would trust in what sbiddle, michaelmurfy and chevrolux say as they have the most experience with these devices.

Which baby cloud core router would you recommend, the CRS109-8G-1S-2HnD-IN CPU is only 600mhz so that probably won't be able to handle it?
I wonder what other Bigpipe 200/200 customers are using?

I would recommend looking at the new fasttrack feature before you upgrade to see if it's suitable for your requirements.

Fasttrack (RoS 6.29.1) should work on PPPoE. You should already have a firewall rule in the forward chain to allow established and related connections with an action of accept.

Simply open this rule in Winbox and click copy and OK.

The original rule should still be open and the new duplicate rule should appear in the list just below it.

On the open rule (1st forward rule for established and related connection states) simply change the action to "fasttrack connection" and save.

Done.

Most of the packets should be caught by this rule with some still going through the next rule just so the Connection Tracker can keep updated.

Be sure to backup and save your config 1st and also to upgrade to 6.29.1 if you are going to use this feature.

If upgrading be sure to check "System Routerboard" to see if a Firmware upgrade is also required. If both current and upgrade firmware say 3.22 nothing needs doing. Otherwise click upgrade, confirm yes and immediately reboot.

Mikrotik estimate a drop from 44% to 6% for firewall cpu load.

I take back the PPPoE - my test VDSL was using IP addressing directly. Bugger.

Its seems not all Mikrotik HW supports it either - but definitely RB2011 series :-)
