just got a new message.. service not available currently over capacity limit

seems to take access for login to account via imap.mail.yahoo.com

I ping this address and goes to a new global address it used to connect to an  aus/nz node in the past

when it detected the IP location

yeah - I'm getting lots of timeouts and random error messages from yahoo imap over the last few days.
downrightnow.com also seems to indicate a lot of people having trouble with yahoo mail

Spark say they don't provide any technical support for IMAP, only POP, so that makes it appear that IMAP is more of a beta, or 'take it leave it' service.

I'm not a Spark customer - just pure yahoo email that I have had for about fifteen years now.
imap has been around for quite a few years on yahoo mail now (can't comment on spark's implementation of it).
It's generally a reliable service but over the past couple of years has had a few (short lived) issues arise (around imap usage)

Imap with Yahoo/Xtra, really I am shocked that people still consider that a good idea especially seeing as they have had many security issues.

You would be much better paying a bit of money and getting Office 365 as it syncs your emails, contacts and calendar and it is a really good reliable service.  Another alternative would be gmail for business.

If you use Outlook I think Office 365 is the best and if you prefer webmail gmail would be better.

nah I using pop peeper on win8 and used imap with it for years.. has all my emails in one places
and xtras is the only one having issues.. normally its been good..

thats cos theres no imap.xtra.co.nz only pop3

and I dont think it matters what email you use.. they all get security issues and DDOS attacks

just usa is more prone to be attacked cos of their gov policies peeing off people world wide

Ok fair enough,
Tell me how important are your emails?  What happens to your emails, contacts and calendar if your PC gets hit by lightening or gets stolen?

The great thing about Office 365 and Gmail is all of that data stays on the server, you get another PC/laptop/ipad etc and set it up and all your contacts, calendar and emails resync.

It's a good way to protect your data as well.  Also if you get Office 365 your emails will be hosted out of Singapore not the US.

I find the moment you hit 1000 messages in an imap folder, the syncing seems to slow to a crawl.
Also i cant remember what client it was, but if the sync time between the server and your computer takes more than a minute, it thinks its timed out. More messages to sync means it will take longer to check for new messages or changes in each folder.

So if yahoo have removed the local node, and are now pointing you to a server that is further away, the speed may slow down, and therefore you could be hitting the timeout. Change the timeout setting in the account profile settings to maybe 5 minutes and see what happens.

I personally advise against gmail + imap / pop. I constantly hear of stories and have seen it myself where a message comes into the inbox, appears in the gmail web interface as per normal, but will not download in the pop or imap connection to outlook/wlmail/oe - it just doesnt even register as a message to download. So you potentially miss emails.

Sorry just to clarify- your email client deletes the message from the local store, but doesnt necessarily delete it from the server by default. It just remembers you have already downloaded the message so it doesnt re-download it again.
