Was thinking of buying one of these modems to use intially on ADSL, but later for fibre, possibly with another ISP in the future. But can they be used with other ISPs, or are the settings locked to Sparks network to prevent them being used with other ISPs? Or am I better to buy something else? Would appreciate peoples recommendations of an ADSL / Fibre router with built in wifi. AC wireless would be best but will setting for n for thw timebeing.

well the HG630 only has fast ethernet ports and 150mbps wifi so why are you even considering it if you want AC in the future. Look for a HG659B if you want AC wifi. there should be plenty around on TM.

And there is no reason they wouldnt work on other ISP, you just end left with the spark firmware, as you can edit all the other info to allow you to connect to other ISP's

there are a few threads with people using them over the Vodafone HG659 because the spark one doesnt suffer the same flaky wifi issues.

If you really want the HG630b, buy it on Trademe where it is much cheaper.

If you want something better, you can get the NetComm NF8AC or ASUS DSL-N66U

Thanks for everyones feedback, as I wasn't really up to todays technology with routers. I will look on trademe at some of these models, as that is where people seem to offload them at good prices.

I received the same modem from TradeMe $30 bucks and worked as soon as I plugged it in, saved a lot of $$
