Was just about to submit form for fibre installation and came across this issue.

Currently, the vdsl router/modem is in a bedroom cupboard and phone is in a separate bedroom. I want the ONT to be installed where the router currently is (because I have other places in the house wired via ethernet to that point already) and I want the phone to be where it currently is - in a bedroom.

Will I have to pay extra for the phone to be wired through the roof to the ONT?

Thanks.

yes, i believe that if you want the phone output on the ONT to be wired into your home wiring then you need to pay the $$, if you want to plug the phone straight into the ONT then you do not need to pay the $$

Can't you just use the existing cable?  I'm sure this charge is just in case they need to do extra work to install a new phone in new location, but if you've already got cabling...?

I also thought I could use the existing cable... I selected the option for now, will ask the technician to make sure I actually need to pay it.

We have a cordless phone - base unit in bedroom, and other one in the kitchen.

May be different, but just getting Fibre installed with VF.  They tell me all existing phone lines will continue to work, they somehow link the current house network into the ONT?  I may be waaaay off the mark, but 2 people I have spoken to from the Fibre install company have told me this.  Surely Spark install would be the same?   I am not losing sleep on it however, cordless phones make multiple phone lines redundant anyway.

The jack on the ONT or Modem is RJ11 so you just plug your phone into that and it works good as gold, it also means you could take your main telephone line, attach a RJ11 plug and put it into your modem and give your whole house access.

You have to disconnect the incoming copper network feed @ P.O.E (Point Of Entry) before you connect from the ONT to the existing house wiring, otherwise you will short circuit or cause a battery fault on your POTS from the ONT line and have no phone service at all.

Most phones come with BT plug to the wall so require an adapter to plug into the RJ-11 socket on the ONT.

I think the adapters retail for $2-3 in-store at The Warehouse.

Sounds simple enough. Surely the installation folk could easily sort that as part of the install? Or does Spark charge for this 'extra'?

There is usually a downtime between when the copper landline is cut and the provisioning time before the ONT voice port becomes active. This depends heavily on automatic and manual ISP processes (ISPs who do RGW voice are not affected by this).

This downtime may not be acceptable to the customer (medical dependency, business dependency for example)

I believe Spark employ their own Downer techs to switch customers over to voice over fibre post the UFB install process.

There is no issue - at the time of install, as part of the standard Chorus ONT installation, a RJ45 Jack is installed next to the ONT to allow for connection of the ONT's Voice port back to your exitsing house wireing (refered to as legacey wireing)

- If you are cutting over to Voip during the install then they (the installers) will make the connection/s and disconnect your house wireing from the copper lead in from the exch.

- If you are not cutting over to VOIP during the install then nothing changes on the day of your install but if at a later date you do want to cut over to voip then you will have to pay a fee for a tech to come and do the reconnections

The copper ETP is cut to the Exchange. The copper ETP is then connected to the ONT ETP, so the home existing wiring is going to fibre, then to the exchange, hence voice
