Just been told by my boss that we need to setup a password protected website, or section of website

I would normally expect to use ASP for that

But our present our website is hosted by Xtra and they dont allow ASP

So does anyone have either

a: a better way to do it

or

b: can suggest a better webhost

advTHANKXAnce

There are a few ways that you can do this. As Xtrahost (which is *really* basic webhosting) does not provide PHP or ASP support, you could look at using .htaccess files.

However, if you are wishing to implement it using ASP - then you'll need a webhost that provides IIS based hosting with ASP.

My experience is ISPs only ever do the very basic hosting, simple HTML pages is pretty normal.  If you want anything with scripts (such as asp, asp.NET or php) you need to find a proper web-hoster.

I'd recommend someone like www.WebDrive.co.nz or www.Net24.co.nz - I've used both, and no complaints for either.

Hope this helps.

I'd 2nd http://www.net24.co.nz/ I use them and refer my clients to them. Very happy with performance of the local (NZ) based servers. Also, the best email spam / virus filtering that I've seen.

I second WebDrive.co.nz, got a few friends on it and have a few clients' sites on it too.
