Since moving to Skinny from 2Degrees, I am unable to get 2FA txts from Google. They simply don't turn up on my phone. I am able to receive 2FA txts from other services such as Apple and the ANZ bank, but not from Google. I am able to get them on my backup (work) phone on Vodafone. Can someone else confirm that they are able to 2FA txts from Google?

I am on Skinny and can receive TFA texts from Google. (Recently got a new 0204 number. FWIW)

Edit... Thought I had better double check. Just went through the google account security checkup and can confirm I do indeed receive the verification code.

I did port my old number from 2Degrees so that may well the problem. Not sure how to solve that. I could try deleting it and then adding it again I guess. Any other thoughts?

Yes, try it removing and adding again - I saw a similar problem when moving from Spark to Vodafone and Facebook SMS wouldn't arrive. Then realised you select an operator when enabling SMS 2FA and they use a specific providers depending on which operator you're using. Removing and adding again solved my problem.

If you are on Android you can use Google Authenticator as an alternative to sms 2FA. I use a forked version called Open Authenticator as it is mirrored to my smartwatch, which incidentally is mighty handy. It can handle token generation for multiple accounts, Google, Facebook, Realms, etc.

Or if you go Authenticator way use Authy: it syncs between Android, iPhone and Chrome add-on. Google Authenticator is on single device only - it means new device requires you to enroll all accounts again on the new device. With Authy you just login and that's it.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll check it out. I tried deleting the phone number causing the problem, but wasn't able to - couldn't see exactly how I mean. So I disabled, then re-enabled 2FA and re-entered my phone number. Wouldn't txt the number, but would call it! So what worked seamlessly now seems kludgy so Authy may be the way to go.

I have this problem with overseas SMS's for 2FA, as some services don't use app verification rather SMS/call or some do SMS only.
i.e. LinkedIn doesn't support app verification. Tested and tried on various handsets, mobile OS's and what not.

So I made a call to Skinny, they apparently block said messages for "Security reasons", "as they're possibly from an unlegitimate source".
Not sure about 2Degrees, but I know Vodafone's network doesn't block these type of SMS messages inbound from prior experience.

I have issues as well - Yahoo messages, possibly others. Have made preliminary enquiries to SKinny and been told it should not be happening - anyone from SKinny here able to comment?

As a follow up, I seem now to be able to receive these texts - had some strange sim issues last week (loss of voice service intermittently etc) so maybe was related.

I had been trying to use my Skinny 0204 number as the recovery number with google, last few weeks I would not get the text from them when trying to set it up.
However i just tried it today and now works.
