for some reason this morning our IPsec VPN tunnels running on cisco routers are playing up..

did have a CSR tell me the other day that all customer supplied routers needed to have a the generic user@xtrabb.co.nz ppp login configured.

would this be hindering our tunnels at all? we seems to have internet access but no vpn or weird ike errors.

each router has always had its own ppp login which had out static ips tied to it - is this no longer the case?

The Static IPs are no longer tied to the PPP username but there are a number of background changes always happening to improve things (more decentralisation - moving customer terminations closer to where you are, reducing number of customers on various bits of equipment) so it's worth checking you still have the same static IP assigned to your conenctions.

The PPP username can be almost anything, but user@xtrabb.co.nz is as good as any. Static IP are line-based now (for about the last 2-4 years depending on your line), and not dependant on the username. If you've already got a username in there that is authenticating, no need to change it.

This will only effect if PPP comes up or not, and will not effect anything running over the top. The only issue I've ever encountered with IPSec is an MTU issue and ensuring that either you IPSec has a smaller MTU than the PPP link, or ensure that the PPP is getting the full 1500 byte MTU. Spark supports a full 1500 byte PPP MTU/MRU.

Of course that may not be your issue :)
