Hi All
have just left Vodafone for spark as Vodafone don’t supply UFB in our street I run a G6 DL380 web server, and have used it with Vodafone with no problems .the problem is I am unable to config Modem HG659b I rang spark and they told me it sounds like I’m doing the config correctly.what I’m after is to find out can this be done as spark has never had this question posed to them before. Thanks for your time.

if hanging a laptop or some media box with a web server you probably need to config the ports
on it and maybe port forwarding.

if the web server is running of a router then remember prob have to have different port as well
as the port 80 is used to access the routers web panel to configure it.

also i find firewalls can block things. at first turn of all protection and see if entering a ip and port works

e..g. http://192.168.1.10:8080

how are you accessing from outside the business/home or just intranet/LAN side?

here is how to setup port forwarding so can use a dynamic ip to port to a lan ip and port
inside the business.

https://www.spark.co.nz/help/internet-data/equipment/huawei/hg659-gateway/port-forwarding-on-the-huawei-hg659-hg659b/

normally if youre outside the business and know the ip its assigned you
would type http://telecomssuppliedip:port

-however that would access the router web panel.. so port forwarding you can use the same IP
but when it detects another port like 8080 on the router it routes it to a LAN ip and its port
if makes sense?

Using those particular modems I have had problems with both Vodafone and Spark. You can enter the port forward but it just doesn't work. Call Spark and they basically don't want to know about it.

I always replace those modems for my business clients.

i can port forward from a dynamic ip to 2 ip cameras on the house lan ok.

seems to work for me...and I havent updated to the latest firmware either.

I suspect maybe they fall over a bit with load though.. its a pretty cheap looking router

one thing the old telecom modem had was a list of ips connecting so could see
if any one has hacked wifi in the hood

as wpa-2 can be broken  if got weak passwords or the person tried long enough

not sure why my previous post vanished but click see previous post shows it up LOL

must be some weird html thing happened there with the blog

no so I rang the local spark shop where I brought the product ,I explained the problem that the modem drops the port forwarding rules and he said yes that’s right they have found the model to be unable to hold on to changes made to port forwarding .why did they give me the jolly thing ,I told them what I was doing with it.

to end
still use the Spark Business UFB Modems (HG659b) but in a different mode (Bridge).  Basically, when the UFB Modem is in bridge mode, it offloads pretty much every function like port forwarding to another device directly connected to it

If the client only wants to spend a few hundred dollars, then ASUS modems / routers are meant to be pretty good.

For any one following, this is the email I sent spark
I am a business customer with the Modem HG659b that drops the port forwarding issue. I can not get any help form your help desk ,I am told a manager will ring back I have rung 3 times now with no joy . I am not prepared to go out and buy a modem that will work and be stuck on a 24 month plan with you , I made it clear what I wanted from the onset your product/ modem does not come close to delivering .please cancel my contract with you as you will not work with me to sort this issue out ,the people at the Taranaki hub have been very good, its with spark product that you give them to sell I have problem with.

in case you dont get support

can you tell us what firmware your router/gateway is using?

as maybe the latest firmware is buggy if its installed?

if not perhaps the new release fixes drop outs..

you can update firmware here via downloads and instructions

came out end of 2014 I think? was a thread on geekzone about it

https://www.spark.co.nz/help/internet-data/equipment/huawei/hg659-gateway/update-modem-firmware-huawei-hg659/

I have a 659b on a dynamic IP with a couple of port forwards set up. I've never had any issues with them. I'm running the latest Spark firmware.

No worries... fingers crossed.

gives me hope I should upgrade mine to latest firmware

perhaps spark should pay me for the tech support :) (could do with the cash
ups died and tablet battery not charging.. seems a year where equipment
to die again.. every 3-5 years lol)

(after all Ive been out of work for the pc tech scene since I came back to nz
from oz working on helpdesks and couldnt land a job in IT in chch since. )

so did you hear from their helpdesk on it and give useful info?
