I noticed my mobile doesn't ring very long lately then I discovered Spark are answering the call and haning up according to a caller.

So I rung myself to find the same thing.

I have voicemail disabled for this exact reason because I take a while to wake up and answer the phone ( I work nights). Work leaving a message defeats the point of last minute calls and odd hours I do.

When did this start happening? It does it on a mates mobile too.

I will switch providers if this can't be defeated because I'm missing work calls. They all know to let the phone ring but that's sooo annoying Spark answering it.

Interesting that your first response is to post on a forum saying "I'll switch providers if it can't be fixed" instead of contacting your telco to see if it can be fixed.

I did contact Spark when I asked for celular secretary to be switched 'off' or change the ring amount to a long time so my phone would keep ringing. So she just switched it off leaving me to understand my phone would keep ringing as was the objective.

Helpdesk useful? No. Contact them yet again? I'm sure there's a more knowledgeble Spark employee on geekzone that can tell me if my phone can keep ringing or not.

I thought work were getting impatient after only 5-6 rings yet would ring again only a few seconds later. All the while paying for their call to get dumped. An assumption on my part perhaps... but I'm guessing answering and hanging up means making money off unanswered calls. That doesn't souns like a problem that'll change to soon.

It would have been nice to tell me my phone will still be answered and the call dropped though. I had a company ring me twice last week for an important call, the second time to tell me about being answered by Spark and hung up on. They thought it was rude not just me.

I feel much more confident that a member or two of geekzone knows more about this than the helpdesk that didn't - as to whether it can keep ringing or not without answering my calls for me.

Pretty sure you can change your own ringing duration via myspark. Was easily done back in telecom days.

I just tested this.

I disabled call forwarding to Voicemail myself (I have a Spark Account) using "##61#"

I then rang my phone, which rung, until I got sick of hearing it ring. I guess at least 30 seconds it rang for.

No one "answered" it.

Are you sure you don't have some bizzaro feature/app on your phone doing the answer for you?

Someone at Spark will easily be able to help you diagnose this. Ring them instead of complaining here.

Edit: Also, try dialing: *#61# - It will report back what happens if the call is considered unanswered.

There's nothing magic about them, they're standard GSM codes. The "activate call forwarding" etc feature on your phone is just a pretty interface to sending these codes to the network.

Just search for "standard GSM codes" or similar, you'll find lots of pages (i.e this one) talking about them.
